Thank you all! I am having a real difficult time at home but I know each day it will get better. The sipping all day is so frustrating. Will it ever go away? The frustrating part?

Yes it will go away, and faster than you think. But getting your fluids in is very important. Eventually you will be able to do more than sip, so you won't feel like you are stuck to a glass all day.

You said you are having a difficult time at home? What kind of problems? Give us some more info, so we can help you. And remember everyday does get easier, to me I would like to forget the first 3 days!! Make sure to walk, walk, walk! It really does help, even if it hurts some.

Good luck!

The first week was the hardest for me, and it gradually got better. I found that gently heated liquids, warm broth, warm Decaf tea with a little stevia sweetener went down easier than anything cold. Everyone is different though. Try warm, try cold, see what feels best for you. Just remember to sip a tiny bit and burp between sips, to reduce the esophageal spasm pain. When I got that pain it was tempting to take another sip, to get the pain to go back down...like a burp that won't come up...but that only made it worse. Move around, try to wait until the burp comes up before you sip again.

Sometimes laying on my side would make the burp come up too...

I don't know if that is the difficulty you are having, or if it is something else. Let us know and we'll try to help.

Hang in there. It does get better. Eventually you will forget all the discomfort as you see yourself "disappearing".

Glad to hear your doing well, I'm back in San Deigo after being sleeved in Mexicali. Staying here tonight, then on home in the morning. I'm feeling ok, sipping and burping. The burps get stuck every now and then thou.

I promise the frustation DOES go away . . . the first couple of weeks post op for me were horrible, I was "hungry" and had cravings and wanted everything, but i stood fast and continued to do my liquid diet. . . i think the first couple weeks is a carb detoxification and you go a little nuts. . . just hang in there, it does get better. . . remember it's only temporary while your new tummy heals ok? good luck!

Yeay for you! I hope you have a speedy recovery. Everytime you have to take a sip of Protein, pretend it is a really good margarita- only this one helps you heal quickly and still keeps you skinny.

No it didn't delay any of my traveling, we had pre planned to stay over night in San Deigo. Had a very smooth flight home.

Thank you all for the prayers and support. I had the surgery here in California, so the only travel was less than 10 miles. The rain was ridiculous, but we needed it.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
