Hi, does anybody still have high blood presure after surgery?

I was told with the weight loss the blood presure could back to normal.

:scared0:

I didn't have HBP before surgery. My mom has the band, and with her first 45lbs. loss, her BP dropped to normal.

By the way, I miss you chat at night ! ! !

I am 3 weeks post op and down close to 40 lbs so far. I am still on BP meds but the past few days, my pressure has been in the 100/70 range so the doc will probably start backing me down soon.

I didn't have high BP prior to my surgery (usually around 125/80) but after weight loss my BP has dropped to around 110/65.

Thank you for answering me so fast!!!

I had HBP before surgery, and then it was comming down, but since the end of the year it's high again. I was told not to eat salt. I'm not taking any medication at this point. Any suggestions?

Remember that HBP can be genetic. My father has never been more than 20 lbs overweight, but he has HBP. And I see many patients that are thin, even active, with HBP. I am surprised that they told you it would go back to normal. Though I would think it would go down some at least. Obesity is just one risk factor of HBP.

I have had high bp for years and was on medicine. I stopped it about a month ago because I kept getting 110/60 readings and felt dizzy off and on. For a couple weeks the BP stayed down but it has crept back up to 140/80 the past few weeks...maybe because I've been sick with a cold/sinus. Am just watching it closely and if it does not go back down, I'll get back on the BP med, maybe a half dose or something...will talk with my internist about it.

Lots of people that are of normal weight have High BP. Sometimes weight loss "fixes" your blood pressure, if the extra weight was the main cause for the elevated blood pressure. Sometimes it's just genetics. My BP goes up and down with my weight like many others, but again it is only one factor.

I had very high blood pressure before surgery. During my pre-op diet I ended up off the BP meds, and stayed off for about 2 months after surgery. My BP started creeping back up a bit, so I started back on meds - but only 1/3 of what I took pre-op.

I am only 3 weeks out and not eating properly or getting enough walking in (nothing but snow and freezing here for a week!!!), but I still have been able to drop my BP med in half and my sugar meds in 1/4th. I am praying that with time and patience I can get rid of it all!!!

Hi, does anybody still have high blood presure after surgery?

I was told with the weight loss the blood presure could back to normal.

:confused1:

I went to my heart doctor and he reduced my meds down to half of what I was taking before surgery. I go back to him in 6 months and he will decide to leave me like it is now or take me off of it entirely. I don't have a monitor, so I don't know how high it is during the day. When I was in the hospital Dec. 24 and 25, my BP went up and down, but it was usually very low. I guess with time and more weight to lose, maybe it will even out more.

I didn't think too much about the high blood pressure being genetic and having high blood pressure even if a person has low weight. My family has a history of high BP. Some are overweight and some are not. Very interesting topic!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
