Recommended Posts

If any of you are from Southeast Texas you know about a teenager at Vidor High School collaspes and died this week (monday I think) Now I am hearing that she had a lap band.... I will try to get more info and post it. To make this more scary.... I got approved for my surgery and went to see my Dr. (Schmidt) yesterday and he could not set a date due to Medical Center of Southeast Texas closed thier obesity center as of Tuesday. I didnt know about the teenager untill after my appt or I would of asked the doc. Thier reason for closing was " staffing problems" I do not know if these two are connected but..... it is very strange. Anybody know anything about this

Haven't heard anything about this. Who staffed that center? Were the doctors from Houston or from that area?

Personally I'd doubt her collapse & the band are related, esp if COD was cardiac arrest as the last article indicates. Unless you meant the relation was between the death & the closing of the center...

A Vidor High School senior collapsed Monday on campus and died a short time later at a Southeast Texas hospital. Jamie Britt, 18, was in the library at about 3 p.m. when she collapsed, Vidor Independent School District spokeswoman Sally Kirkpatrick said.

School personnel worked to resuscitate Britt until emergency medical personnel arrived, Kirkpatrick said.

Britt was taken to a local hospital where she died.

An autopsy has been ordered. The cause of death had not been determined Monday. Kirkpatrick said the high school principal plans to meet with the senior class this morning and counselors from throughout the district will be available for students.

VIDOR, TEXAS - Monday afternoon Jamie Britt, an 18- year- old Vidor High School senior, was attempting to do course work at the school library when she collapsed. According to reports, it is unknown what caused Britt to become unconscious. Sally Kirkpatrick, Director of Community Relations, VISD stated that Britt was alive when she left the school and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. Today, Vidor mourns its loss. “We met with seniors this morning and counselors will be available for the next two week,” said Kirkpatrick. “Exams will go on as scheduled. As soon as we know when the services will he held, students will be excused to attend.”

Jamie Britt, an 18 year old Vidor student went into cardiac arrest Monday afternoon at Vidor High School and later died at a local hospital. The senior was in the school’s library when she collapsed.

The Band is innocent until proven guilty! Just because someone with a band dies, doesn't make it band related, and even if it was band-related that shouldn't shut down an entire obesity surgical center unless there's a lot more dirt being uncovered behind the scenes. My heart goes out to that poor kid's family.

It's like saying. Bob died. He drove a Chevy. His Chevy is why he died.
'xactly. Ice cream sales go up in the summer. Crime goes up in the summer. Therefore, eating ice cream causes people to participate in crime.

What a sad story. With cardiac arrest in an 18 yr old IF it's dieting my first thought is amphytimines. Yes, docs still prescribe them.

However, it could be something completely unrelated to dieting.

sad, sad loss. banded or not...in light of the loss of life, the band is the least of my concerns right now. my heart is heavy.

i will worry about the band when...if it is revealed that it contributed to any circumstance of her passing.

I was more interested in why the obesity center was closed. So much going on with some of the doctors in Houston that have offices in that area as well. I was just wondering if they were related. I don't know where some of the Houston doctors operate or if they make them come to Houston and only hold seminars there. The two events are probably unrelated - her death and the closing of the obesity center.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
