Information on ANY Las Vegas sleeve surgeons...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so in a previous post I asked about Dr. Umbach, here in Las Vegas. I think a better question might be, does anyone have ANY information they would like to share about ANY sleeve surgeon, here in Las Vegas? I'm trying to do independent research to see if I might be able to find someone here in town that could do my sleeve. I have no qualms about going to MX (been there, done that, would go again), but, due to the amount of time required in travel/stay in MX, and other concerns (I'd like to stay closer to home), I'm hoping that I might get lucky and find someone here. Clearly experience and cost are very important factors, when considering staying here in the States. Questions I would love answered, if you have info to share:

Name of Doctor?

Hospital(s) they work out of?

Number of sleeves performed (if known)?

Number of weight loss surgeries performed (if known)?

Complication stats (if known)?

Time it took from initial contact to the day of surgery?

Pre-operative diet?

Cost (total and/or broken down) for cash-pay?

Any and all thoughts on your experience at the office, hospital, pre-op, post-op, etc?

Thank you to any and all who might be able to share some information about Las Vegas (Henderson, North LV) bariatric surgeons... I truly appreciate the input and help! :party4::smile1::smile1:

I do not have any experience with surgeons in Vegas, but I wanted to bump this thread for you in the hopes that someone who does will see it and help you out.

Thanks for the bump, Susan. I guess there isn't much info available... looks like none, actually. :) Thanks again! :)

youknowit -- I understand the reason you don't want to go back to Mexicali; however, would it be too time consuming to perhaps travel to SF?

Unfortunately the Las Vegas area does not have the best reputation for medical services, and certainly not for speciality services ... I hope you find a surgeon you are comfortable with and who has the experience you are looking for closer to home than Mexicali (although it's only an hour flight to SD and then the ride to Mexicali) ... if I find out anything more, I will certainly let you know. Unfortunately being in the line of work I am in, it's generally not good things that I discover.

Thanks so much, again, VegasAngel. You're awesome!

I will say this, I'm open to any and all information that might be available from you or whomever might have something to share. I have received good information on the SF docs/program I'm pretty sure you are referring to, they sound fantastic. Really though, like you said, what's the difference between going to SF or going to MX? Nothing, really.

What this really comes down to for me, I suppose, is the terrible treatment and prejudice I got here in Vegas after the two times I went to MX. In fact, my (fired) doctor at Southwest Medical put something in my file there, attributing all of my medical issues I was having (three months AFTER band removal), to having gone to Mexico. I hardly even remember telling her where I got my band/removal. I just told her I did, and she said, "I bet you went to Mexico", and I didn't say anything.

Can I just say, I am STILL getting bills that SW Medical wouldn't pay in full, even for the specialist THEY sent me to, because they are now attributing unrelated things to my weightloss surgery? They CAN'T do anything about where I went, so they are using what I had done, to cause me serious problems. Needless to say, they won't pay for anything significant that is WLS related.

I have been in touch with Nina at Dr. A's office, so I guess time will tell what I decide. I'm just wanting to get moving forward... I'm so tired of sliding backwards (into getting fat again). :)

Interesting the bad feedback you got from going to Mexico -- my PCP was very supportive and agreed to treat me afterwards. As I said, maybe that is because he is of Indian origin and knows about discrimation? Also, Bearded's cardiologist was VERY interested in his surgery and his surgeon - and in fact asked us to provide him with Dr. Aceves name and information as he was often asked for a good bariatric surgeon. I'm sorry you have gone through what you are going through -- it was wrong of your doctor to post that in your file - have you tried fighting it or filing a claim with the Medical Board? Also, do you have to go to Southwest or can you see a doctor elsewhere? My PCP is at the UMC (not the Quickcare, but next to it) off of Buffalo and Lake Mead. If you want his information, let me know.

I hope you're able to make a decision soon ... oh yeah, and the surgeon I couldn't think of in SF is Cirangle ... MacMadame used him.

Yes, I can see the doc you go to (you PM'd me, and I checked it out). I plan to "transition" to him with the insurance this week. I have to wait until next month to be able to see him, but I can switch my "paperwork" now... I'll let you know how it goes with him. :001_tongue:

Sorry - I forgot - there's been a lot going on in my life these past few weeks and sometimes I forget what I've said/done.

I will say again that I have had an excellent experience with Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas. I am seeing him for my 6 week follow up tonight. He operates at Desert Springs Hospital and I received wonderful care there. I was self pay and his prices are very reasonable. His office staff are wonderful and helpful. He has support groups in his office twice a month on Saturdays that I have found extremely helpful. He and his office staff are committed to follow up for the success of his patients.

I am having the sleeve done at Surgical Weight Control Center here in Las Vegas this Thursday and Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Soong are very good surgeons. I have had several family members and friends have their surgeries by them and they are doing great.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
