Thanks everyone for all your amazing advice so far.

The next question bothering me is could someone expailn what usually happens after the operation in terms of food/ quantities/ types how you feel in the first few weeks etc. Im a bit confused (actually im always a bit confused so i cant blame the operation)

When can you start to eat again.

And finally I know its a personal thing and i dont really want to think about it but can someone tell me in terms of 1-10 whats the pain like.

Thanks again everyone.

[quote=DALITEDESIGNS;21111]Thanks everyone for all your amazing advice so far.

My surgery was performed by Dr. Aceves - the day after surgery, I was given some apple juice colored with blue vegetable coloring to sip on - if there had been a leak, it would have shown up in my drain bag. After that, I was given chicken broth, hot tea and some Tang or something like that to drink the rest of the 2nd day and the third day. On day 3 I was given another leak test where I had to drink something and had a flouroscope. After discharge from the hospital, I was on 8 days of Clear liquids (total of 10 days counting 2 days in the hospital); then 10 days of full liquids, then 10 days of mushies, then start adding in other food as tolerated.

When can you start to eat again.

If by eating again you mean solid food, in my case it was 30 days after surgery.

And finally I know its a personal thing and i dont really want to think about it but can someone tell me in terms of 1-10 whats the pain like.

In recovery, I'd say my pain was about a 6; once in my room where I could move about and use my heating pad, I'd say the pain subsided to about a 2-3. It really wasn't bad at all.

Thanks again everyone.

Hope my answers help you some - I'm sure others will have their own stories as well; if you have any other questions, ASK!

I also had surgery with Dr Aceves. I was on the same diet as Vegas. I however would say that I didn't have anything that even resembled pain either in the recovery room or thereafter. I would say that my pain level was a 2 except for day 2 when it was a 3. Once they took the drain out and I could sleep on my side again, I didn't have any pain. The only pain I had was caused by the gas used to inflate the stomach for surgery. I used a heating pad to help with that and walked a lot.

I never had any pain to speak of. I had pain the first 24 hours in my shoulder because of the gas. They gave me pain meds for that. It took care of it.

As far as eating, Dr. Aceves post op diet is 10 days clear liquid, 10 days full liquids, 10 days of mushies. So, I would say after 20 days you can eat soft foods.

Thank you so much for the advice especially on the "pain " question.

Getting so excited -is it strange to be looking forward to a few days in hospital away from the kids?

Even my husband is talking about "next summer"

Ive never ever been slim so I am a little unsure about what and who I will be.

Yay me !!!

Hey Dalite,

I agree with the previous posts about the pain.. I have a very LOW pain tolerance and the pain at worst was a 4 for me. Mostly a 2-3... it amazed me there was so little. My surgeon did not use a drain tube for me, I guess that is a surgical choice combined with the surgical candidate. My diet was Clear Liquids for 3-4 days, then I started adding in Protein powder, by day 5 I have been adding in full liquids, you know yougurt and cream of wheat Cereal very runny but still yummy. Also in the hospital it was hard to get one ounce of Fluid down and now I'm able to do about 6 .. that is over about a half hour but it's making it much easier to get Water in.

Hope this helps,

~Chandra

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
