Worried that I will be the only one...

Recommended Posts

who has this procedure done and then doesnt lose weight. I am having anxiety that I am somehow going to be the person who has it done and finds a way to still not lose weight. I dont know why I think I have so much less self control than everyone else. I am probably a little below average like many people and others seem to be successful with it so why am I so worried I wont be?

I think several patients feel this type of anxiety. I just didn't allow negativity to invade my thought process on having this surgery. I was hellbent on making it work, and knew that I could not let my mind wander with the "what ifs".

I had to remind myself this is just a tool, it still takes a concentrated effort to make it work, but it's much easier than having to do it on my own.

Have faith in yourself, and know that you will be as successful as you set yourself up to be.

Just my 2cents.

I have the same thoughts. I know that my biggest issue is portion size control. I can make the good food choices, I just can't keep the portions sizes down. I am not a grazer, I eat three times a day and that is it. I know that the sleeve is going to help me control the portion sizes, but I still have doubts in my mind. I worry that I might become a grazer so i can get a steady stream of calories coming in instead of three times a day. I worry that I won't be active, even though I am an active person at heart now(always have been). There are a lot of what ifs, but in the end we are physically changing ourselves. We are altering the way our body takes food and digests it. We are taking away a large producer of the hunger hormone ghrellin. I know the sleeve can be cheated, but if we eat the right foods and become more active, there is no way we won't lose weight.

Thanks Tiff :-) I appreciate that, and I know you are right. I dont doubt the decision to get it, and there is no reason why I would be so different from all the others on this board who have had great success with the procedure.

I had/have the same fears. I'm only 3 weeks out and sometimes when I think about food I think I'll never be successful at this. Then I'll have 2 oz of cottage cheese or tuna, feel completely full (for hours!) and realize that this will be a work in progress but I have a tool now to help me overcome my food issues.

I know it won't always be as easy as it is right now being so newly post-op but I have faith that every day I can make exercise a part of my life and every day that I can make good food choices that those things will become more ingrained in my behaviors.

Don't worry. You have your surgeon to help you with your anatomy and you have lots of support here to help you with the rest!

I had the same exact thoughts/questions...would this work for ME? What I discovered is that the sleeve is a wonderful tool that does work! It restricts you from eating too much and by taking in fewer calories than you burn, you lose pounds. Good luck!

Thanks for all the support! IT means a great deal. I think my surgery date is going to be moved up to next week actually! That is a lot sooner than I originally planned but will work out well I think.

Joon, this has been my #1 anxiety also. I can see and hear about everyones' success, but I have this irrational thinking that it won't work for me. It's good to hear I'm not the only one having these thoughts. I think my main stumbling block is I just CAN'T wrap my mind around the possibility of being my at my goal weight. Like it's impossible to weight that much. However, to think that it IS possible is soooo exciting. Good luck to you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
