Fitness Center

Recommended Posts

I joined a Slim and Trim this morning. She said it was just like curves but she has extra workout equiment. It's only 5 minutes from where I work. Cost $27 a month and 4 free visits in the tanning bed. I have never been in a gym or fitness center or t. bed. But I broke free and went today. I really enjoyed it.

My parents always said that exercise was for lazy people. Good honest productive hard work everyday and you didn't have to waste your time jumping around.:lol0::lol0::lol0:

I just won't tell them. LOL

Judy, that is great. I have heard of Curves, but not Slim and Trim.

Your parents sound like my parents, what they said made me laugh. Our parents are most definitely of a different era.

Congrats Judy - how fun. I belonged to a lady's gym that was like Curves, however they ended up going out of business -- it was fun because it was all women and everyday they did something different with the machines to mix things up - it wasn't the same ole thing everyday like Curves. I was sad when I received the letter they were closing their doors.

Keep it up and have FUN ... you'll be on the good road by the time you have your surgery.

Was looking at a local place as well. It has aerobics, tae kwan do, Water aerobics, and steam and sauna to complement the normal machines and weights. Plus they have four certified and licensed personal trainers and one is always there wandering the floor. Only $35 a month, which seems good to me. I also like going to places like this for the social benefits. Being fat made me hide; now is the chance to get out once again.

Bob, that sounds like a really nice place. I would love the Water aerobics. The little place I signed up with for a month is just a room on the back of a little country grocery store. There is about 10 different machines in a circle. You just begin on any machine until a tape recording yells "change", about 2 or 3 mins. on each machine. You go around 3 times on all the machines and jog in place between each machine.

My hubby thought he would suprise me and went to yard sales, thrift shops, ect. and bought 5 different exercise machines and put them in the basement for me. He spent less than $50 and I can use them everyday. Sometimes we workout together. I'm really having fun with this. My young teenage grandchildren enjoy it too when they come for a visit.

Enjoy the exercise Bob. I know it is going to be so worth it. Judy

Judy, that is super. I wish I had a place to use like that. My house is small and no room for exercise equipment. I have a stationay bike and an eliptical Gazelle on patio that works OK but is so hard to get me out there when it is 110 degrees. Any excuse, I know.

Bob it sounds like you found the best of all places. Everything a person could possibly want to do and oversight too. Awesome to both of you. Good luck with wt loss & exercising. carol

Exercising is not only good for the body it's great for the spirit and moods too. I am glad to hear your found some place you like Judy.

I see people posting on that other board about having plateaus and stalls, and exercise is the best way to avoid all of that.

You are so right, Daisy. Half the time, I have to talk myself into going to the gym. Then, once I am done, I feel so good and have an amazing increase in energy that I can't figure out why I dreaded it so.

My friend is home from her vacation so I'm excited to hook up with her and begin a regular exercise routine after work each evening --- I've set my alarm for 5:30 am with the hopes that I can get my butt out of bed in the morning and do my pilates workout ... I used to have no trouble getting up early; since the surgery though, I need a lot more sleep than I did beforehand.

Vegas, more power to you for getting up that early to exercise. When I first joined the gym, we had three free consults with the personal trainer. He told me I needed to get up earlier every morning and do thirty minutes of cardio on my treadmill. He said it would get my metabolism going and I would be amazed and how it affected my energy level for the rest of the day. That all sounds wonderful, but I am a girl who loves her sleep. I cannot force myself out of bed until I absolutely have to get up in order to just make it to work on time.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
