Okay all, as most of you know, my surgery was on 6/12. That was 2 weeks ago this past Friday. I am still struggling to get in all my Protein and fluids.

Did anyone else - or is anyone else- still getting a feeling of everything getting 'stuck' - even fluids (inasmuch as that is all I am on at this time) - right about the spot between your boobs?

I don't understand how things get stuck when they are liquid ... however, it happens. Sometimes, when I have that stuck feeling and I brush my teeth, I start to gag. Almost like you might do if you were pregnant -- WHICH I AM NOT. Then I get very nauseaus and break out in a cold sweat and have to lay down with a fan on me until it passes.

I'm just wondering if something is wrong with me or if others have/had this issue. I'm afraid the gagging will cause a leak, aside from the fact that it hurts and is no fun.

Thanks for your input/advice.

I had something sorta kinda similar. Each time I'd take a sip of something it felt like everything from my stomach to my esophagus was in spasms. Turns out, it was. It was due to swelling and it went away soon.

Did you call Nina?

No, have been in contact with Gaby since I got home ... she's aware. Since I am so paranoid about it, Dr. Aceves is going to do a GI for me on July 10th when I'm there for Bob's surgery. At this rate, I'm never going to get off of fulls to even mushies and I know I'm not getting in enough Protein, so on top of it all, I have no energy and sleep more than I ever can remember. The worst side effect after the gagging is throat is so darn sore.

Everything else I was having issues with - the excessive mucus, coughing, not sleeping ... has passed, so I would hope that this too, will, with time (the sooner the better in my opinion)

That seems to happen to me if I take one bite too many. Sometimes I will get a pain in my back instead. I'm trying so hard to get enough Protein in that I sometimes push it. It hurts. It feels as though I'm going to burp it all up. I think it is all part of the learning process.

Hey hun, I totally understand what you are saying! I had that the other night when I tried a bite of watermelon...I was so scared until I woke up the next morning and it was gone! I stopped calling simply because everyone says it is from swelling and will eventually go away. I just gotta have faith I guess. I see Bob is scheduled for the 10th...so is my sister so we will be hanging out together again! You know compare stitch sites and all that...J/K!

I really do hope everything starts getting easier though, I have been so weak and tired! I look at everyone else on here and I have to admit I am jealous, but hopefully it will get easier soon and we will be 2 more people thrilled with the results! Take care hun!

HA - funny you should say that -- that is JUST what I finished telling Bob -- that I think the "stuck" feeling is my "full feeling." Tonight I had the pain in the shoulderblade feeling and felt like I was going to burp it all up. Good to know and glad I figured it out.

Bob's surgery is actually going to be the 11th, but we'll be there on the 10th for pre-testing so will come and see you and see how your sis is doing ... I'll be glad to be on the "other side" this time... glad you'll be there too ... I was thinking I might get bored with too much time on my hands.

This will pass. Its annoying when it happens though. You are still swollen on the inside, from the surgery. Give yourself some more time and it will be fine. At this point, dont worry so much about getting in your quota of Protein, etc.. its great if u can, but dont stress over it. Do the best that you can and remember that you are still healing.

Thanks Sassie - I know it's only been 2 weeks and I need to be patient, it's that at times it's frustrating. I decided to do what I could do and not stress over it anymore -- I can tell, now, that everyday it is getting better. Thank goodness!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
