Well I went back later and checked my food diaries and realized that I hadn't been doing that many bullets and that my Protein had gone down quite a bit the week before I had issues. I was quite shocked because my memory of what was going on at that point didn't match my reality.

Mmk so another question...I had bought the Isopure 20 oz 0 carb and like 40g Protein, ready made drink. I am thinking since I will be returning the IDS (found out I can) that I need to buy some more. So my question is this...should I get more of the 0 carb, or should I get the 8oz size that has 60 carbs and 15g protein? It seems like that would be easier to drink in the beggining. Any thoughts?

Nooooo, not the 60gms carbs, that's like a 3 day supply of carbs in one sitting and with less protein.

The idea here is not to get in as many calories as possible, the idea is to get in as many grams of protein as possible. You don't want or need the extra empty calories, you need the protein to heal from surgery.

The first six months is the easiest time to lose weight. You don't want to fight that, you want to take advantage of that.

You are looking for the 0gms carbs/40gms protein. I wouldn't buy a lot until you know if you like it or not.

Thanks Wasa...after looking more I found some 8oz bottles that have 0 carbs and 15g of Protein. I figured it is easier to drink 8 oz at a time then 20oz! I went ahead and ordered 2 cases, I had a coupon so they were not that bad, and if I don't like it I have 5 other people in the house that would probably drink them. I would rather spend a bit of money and have it here then stress over it later! Thanks for telling me no so I looked a bit deeper, I just assumed they all had the same carb count!

One of the things you'll want to keep in mind and especially on the post op diet. Ghrelin isn't the only thing that can cause hunger. Blood sugar spikes can too. That's why it just seems to make it easier to cut the carbs (even good ones) during liquids. It's hard enough getting used to liquids only without having actual stomach hunger.

The way I did it during the losing phase was the first few months I cut out all carbs, even the good ones. I lost well but it wasn't the healthiest way to go. Then I kept calories the same but added good carbs, I just dropped the white carbs and I lost just as well but felt better. That's what worked for me. You have to find what works for you. There are no rules with this except Protein. ;o) You find what is a good fit for you and go for it. Listen to how lots of others do it and experiment a bit.

Wow...You cut all carbs? I am honest with myself in knowing that I could not do that...I can however commit to whatever carb intake I have to be quality. Having little kids and a busy husband just about guarantee the fact that there will be Pasta and other such carbs. Hopefully I am active enough that with the small portions and healthy carbs I will still lose weight at least relatively fast! I plan to concentrate on making sure I get some type of chicken each day, with veggies or possibly brown rice. I can't eat seafood, aside from shellfish, lol, so I figure chicken is my next best bet! To be sure I get the Protein I will keep using the Protein Drinks. It will count as my Water anyways, so even one a day will help. I am pretty active and workout already 2-3 times a weeks and plan to increase that once I am feeling better after the surgery. I guess we just cross our fingers!

I had to get down and dirty honest with myself and realize that I got fat eating white carbs. I can't quit once I start. If I start eating them I crave them all the more. If I don't eat them I don't crave them.

So in the beginning I did keep ALL carbs under 20gms daily. Later I changed my mind about that and even today I typically keep white carbs at less than 20gms daily and the rest are veggie carbs.

I was just going into the kitchen to make my daughter a 1/2 of ham sandwhich on whole wheat...it was 17gm of carbs per slice (not counting other carbs that were in the sandwhich), man did that hit home. Then I figured, I wont be eating it anyways, it would be waaaayyyyy too much food for me! Do you know how excited that made me?!? It is just awesome to think of!

Hi All,

I'm about 7 weeks out. I use the 42g bullets. Because you can't absorb all that Protein, what I do is take half twice per day. I don't care for the taste- it's a bit "syrupy" I add about 1/2 an oz of Water, hold my nose and "shoot" it back in about 3 swallows. I know it's kind of funny to hold my nose- but that way I can't smell the protein. I also like a few of the nectar brand protein powders. I have the strawberry kiwi, I mix it with 8 oz Crystal Light Pink Lemonade. Twisted cherry is another good flavor. I'm going to be trying a couple other Nectar flavors, I'll keep you posted- I'm very picky when it comes to odd flavors. I can taste anything "weird". HTH

From "ASMBS Allied Health Nutritional Guidelines for the Surgical Weight Loss Patient"

"One popular myth is that only 30 g/hr of Protein can be absorbed. Although this is commonly found in both lay and some professional literature, there is no scientific basis for this claim."

Yes, some docs do that. Mine didn't. We were on something they call "thin" liquids which does not include pudding or oatmeal or yogurt (which are allowed on full liquids).

I'm on my first ten days. I did not like any of the powdered Protein supplements that you would add to the broth like powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. So for the first ten days I'm basically going without the required Protein. That's not making me happy. I don't suppose it is going to kill me until I can get to the point where I can drink my Protein shakes.

Did anybody find something that wasn't just awful for the first ten days?

Sleeve patients do well on all full liquids and all pureed foods the first 2 weeks post operatively. liquid yogurts, thinned refried Beans (with broth), smoothies with added egg beaters as they are a pasteurized, blended cottage cheese with pureed fruit! have fun.

Melanie Machado, RD, CD (I have over 150 sleeve patients in my clinic)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
