Question about what I need for after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all! Question - I know I need to get lots of Water, instant Breakfast drinks, broth, baby food, baby Vitamins, etc. to prepare for when I have my surgery. But, can anyone tell me what is the absolute must have that may not be mentioned in the paperwork? I want to be as prepared as possible!

Thank you! :second:

Chris

FWIW, I never needed breakfast drinks, baby food or baby Vitamins.

Hey ladybug -- when will you have your surgery, and where? Hope you insurance comes through soon! You need liquid tylenol and a pill crusher too...just my 2 favs............you also mind as well invest in a good blender if you don't already have one. The Protein Shakes are totally yuck unless blended and during the liquid phase you can blend up Soups etc.......rather than just plain broth. Godd luck & welcome!

A comfortable place to sleep! :)

Everyone is different, but I was very grateful for my recliner! (Laying down flat hurt....) I also relied on my heating pad for extra comfort. If you experience any Constipation, be sure to have some Milk of Magnesia on hand... it's the one thing no one had warned me about, and I wish they had!!! Best of luck to you! It will be a wonderful new beginning! It's the best thing I've done for myself!

Things I was happy to have right away.

chewable Vitamins (like Flintstones),

purchased my liquid pain meds ahead of time (ask Dr. for prescription),

heating pad.

Loose nightshirt (no waistbands).

A small pillow to put between my knees at night

another small pillow to stuff under my stomach (I'm a side sleeper).

Remember that you are not going to be bedridden. You can go out to buy anything you wished you had.

I bought a Cuisineart 'stick' blender and I just LOVE it. It's the same as a blender but you blend in the pan or glass you're already using. Way easy to use and keep clean! Much better than cleaning your whole blender every time you use it, which is several times a day at first and almost daily even now!

Here's a picture of the box so you can see the product I'm talking about:

If this thing broke today it would still have been worth the money and I'd go out and buy another one immediately! lol

I agree with the person who recommended mouthwash and I'd include breath mints! All that Protein makes your breath pretty yucky for a while - until you add normal food back into your diet.

Another good thing to have is a front opening nightgown - much easier than pulling one over your head.

At least one comfortable pair of slip on shoes which you can wear outside.

Liquid Tylenol PM Golden vanilla Flavor. The flavor part doesn't matter but I didn't see Tylenol PM unflavored so I thought I'd put that in so you'd know what you're looking for. It was a great way to get some assistance falling asleep after 24 hours of laying around. I only took one of the prescription pain pills my doc gave me. After that the liquid Tylenol took care of the pain easily.

If I think of any more I'll add them later.

Congrats on your surgery and good luck on your weight loss journey!

Hello all! Thank you all so much! I have a couple more things to get thanks to all of you!

My insurance approved the surgery - YEAH! :clap2:And, it's scheduled for 5/26 - 4 days away! I'm nervous :phanvan and excited at the same time. Anesthesia scares me the most but I will have faith in my anesthesiologist and Dr. Haag that Christ is working through them and will guide their hands!:)

Wish me luck everyone! I can't believe the date is finally here!

lady29bug ~ Congratulations!! We share a band date....5-26. You should come join us at the May Band Crew: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16512. There are a few others with the same band date. YEAH....it's going to be here before we know it. I can't believe it. I think I need pinched again.

Hey Donna, I know love your Cuisinart. Where did you buy it and how much do they run? Also, do they leave any powder in the bottom? I was thinking of getting that Magic Bullet and I know it's a bit pricey, but it has some good reviews. I have a nice blender, but want to buy something just for the shakes.< /span>

Hi 3Loves,

I have had the Magic Bullet blender for 2 years now and I really love it. It also comes with a juicer. It even grinds coffee beans! Made fresh squeezed lemonade with it yesterday! Everyone should have this for their kitchen! so easy to use and to clean.

I would reccomend this especially for those that have upcoming lapband surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
