Hair loss!:-(

Recommended Posts

I have also been losing some hair. My NUT says make sure to get your 70-90g of Protein & make sure you are taking your Vitamins with your meals or they don't absorb right. Massage your scalp real good when you Shampoo it will stimulate new growth. I heard this is normal as our body adjusts to its changing metabolism.

I hadn't heard that about the Vitamins but I will switch and take them with meals. With the people that had to change their hair, did you have to cut it short or just restyle?

I have noticed this as well. I didn't have it before. I think it is because I cannot drink as much Water and my mouth is dry.

I had terrible hair loss for a very long time. 4 years later, I still was losing a lot of hair and my hair was really thing. Products for the hair only help with exsisting hair but you want new healthy hair too. Its all in your vitamins!!!!

Please make sure your Vitamins are 100% absorbent. If not, your body is not receiving the appropriate amount for nutrients. I started using Its Vital Nutrient Complete pack in January and have seen a complete turn around in my hair. I have hope again!! I tried every over the counter treatment and was told by my doctor to up my Vitamin dose.

The pack is a 30 day supply of Multivitamins, minerals, & omega-3.

Grrrowl!!!

I have had hair loss as well. My hubby too. The other day I was at the hair salon, I had been putting off having my hair done because I was shedding worse then the Persian cat I have at home! Bits of long blonde hair were everywhere!

I finally broke down and went to the salon, I thought to just groom the dead ends, and hopefully get some volume back. I had them bring the color tone down from bright blonde to more of the new in style Bronde. A mix of brown and blonde.

As they washed out the color...a huge fist full of hair came out. I panicked for a second thinking OK now i"m sure I have a bald spot!

Alas, no bald spot. (Thank God!) I have been taking the Biotin Vitamins and using Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner. My hair is growing back, I have all little baby hairs popping up everywhere.

The hairdresser did a deep conditioning Keratin treatment for me while I was there to help smooth down the new growth, and to help make the rest of my hair stronger.

I'm happy. My Nut told me it's because I have not been getting enough Protein so I have upped that to make sure I am getting in 60-80 grams a day. The hubby too and things have turned around for us in the hair department!

Thanks to a friend on this site, I have been taking Protein Shots on days when I am not eating enough to help supplement. They have about 26 grams of Protein and 65 calories. I am loving it!

Thanks PT for the advice!!

What kind of protein shots are you using and where did you get them?

They are by Body Fortress, they have 26 Grams of Protein. I got them at Walmart!! Shout out to my friend PT!! Her advice was right on the $$.

They are about $9.99 for 6 bottles or vials as they call them. I usually have 1 or 2 per day depending on the amount of protein I have. They are a quick way to ensure I'm getting my totals in for the day especially if I am short for some reason.

still losing hair like crazy here, my hair is so thin and it looks awful, no style whatsoever anymore. I'm very vain about my hair, always have been, my toenails and hair and I'm losing both, toenails and hair, luckily found a great podiatrist that is working with me but as far as the hair goes i'm at a loss. today's menu: Protein Shake for Breakfast 26gs, lunch Wendy's jr cheeseburger (don't fuss I had to eat on the go and don't know the Protein grms for that) and dinner a cup of chili. Maybe I'm not getting enough I dunno but what do know is i need help. i'm ready to purchase a wig.

Hi guys,

I read your post this morning and it made me sad :(

I have a real issue keeping my protien intake high enough while still staying under my calories for the day. When I use the Protein shots, or Protein bars/drinks...to help get those extra grams in they are great, and low in calorie..but OMG the gas!!!

(TMI alert!!)

Not so much the PU of it..but the pains in the belly. Grumble rumble tumble..and I can't exactly rip it here at my desk! By the time I get to the ladies room..I can sit there a good 10 minutes just blasting away..sounds like world war three! EMBARRASSING!

Then of course when the protein is not high enough I am not losing any weight..and I'm feeling tired all the time and consequently got myself sick with a bad upper respiratory infection! So this morning...I was on a tirade! I am an overweight, gas blasting, bald cranky b***h! Get out of my way!!!!!

Good thing it's Halloween...I got everyone running scared! BOO!

Hoo...what should we do??? Yeah yeah I know protein..get your gas mask on, the bombs are about to blow!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
