How many of you corrected prediabetes and lowered your blood pressure with the lap band?

Recommended Posts

Pre lapband my blood pressure was 210/103 and my fasting blood sugar was 138. Since getting the lapband Nov 7 2012 I have lost 79 pounds, and have lowered my blood pressure to 135/70 and my fasting blood sugar is 90! Yay!

Me too. My blood pressure before surgery was high enough to require meds. At my last visit- They re-took it because the nurse thought she wrote it down wrong-it was 110/57! Also, pre- surgery my A1C was 6.4, last check was 5. I was THRILLED to get off metformin. The side effects were awful..

Pre-band, I was on a low dose of blood pressure meds, my cholesterol was elevated, and I was pre-diabetic. Happy to say, I'm off the blood pressure meds, and my sugar and cholesterol are now in the normal range.

Side note: If it weren't for the blood pressure meds, I don't know that insurance would have approved my surgery. For that, I'm glad that I was on them, and even happier to be OFF them :P

My BP was doing some wicked things before the band...it had gone up as high as 170/92 or something like that. I'm already back to 120/80. Not only that, but I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in February with a fasting A1C of 150, I am now off the meds and am usually around 95 - 105!

Ain't the band grand?!?

That's awesome! I am off of metformin, too. I quoted my A1C wrong...I don't know what that was, but I know my fasting blood sugar was 150. I'm now 95-105 when I check it!

Hi! I didn't have diabetes, though I was very close. After being banded, lower cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. In fact, mine is awesome! 98/59 !!! Yeah, I'm lovin it!

Me too!

I don't remember what my AC1 was but it was really high. They told me if I didn't do something it was a matter time before I'm full blown diabetic. Now, it's 95.

My blood pressure hovered around 140/100 and they were about to put me on medication for that, too. Now, my blood pressure is about 100/70.

Same here. Off some meds and others lowered. And that was my PCP's suggestion to lower without me asking.

Pre band, I was on two blood pressure meds and two diabetes meds. Now off of all those meds. My BP runs around 100/50 and my last Hb A1C was 5.6; pre band it was 8.9.

I was banded two years ago and have lost 122lbs!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
