When did you start eating soft foods after your surgery?

Recommended Posts

I know it's rough, but it doesn't matter when anyone else started soft foods after surgery, regardless of hunger. All that matters is when your doctor said you could have them.

It's imperative you stick to your surgeons post op diet regardless of hunger. Your stomach has been sutured and injured and needs time to heal.

I really don't understand all the focus on eating during the post-op healing period... I mean come on, what do you want?? Did you really care so much about a few pieces of dead animal or plant that you're willing to hurt yourself over it? Do you want to do what you've always done THAT BADLY?? Or do you want to change your life and get your act together? Your choice, but if you don't want to change your life, why bother with the surgery? I don't get it...

Your doctor knows when you can start eating solids and he's seen your stomach and knows how much damage has been done. So, you really need to follow his orders. I couldn't eat solids for 30 days. I did eat soft foods after 7 days and mushies after 10 or so.

I had 3 weeks of liquid and then could do soft food for 3 weeks. I still do some soft food if my band is tight or maybe I ate a bit too much at a previous meal. Each doc seems to be different so do what he/she says to do and you should be fine.

I am 8 days post op and have started on soft foods along with the liquids. My hunger is back :( so this is going to be a long three weeks until my first fill. Fortunately tuna is a great Protein and so is fish which makes you stay filling fuller longer! Chew, chew, and then chew some more before swallowing. My timeline of what I am eating was well planned by the doctor and dietician prior to my surgery, I wanted no surprises and pre planning for success was my goal!

I did four days liquids, five days mushies, and then regular food which was NOT what my doctor recommended. However, if I would have damaged my band that would have been MY responsibility. If you think you're starving then talk to your doctor. I talked to mine during the preop and he okayed me to have some chicken breast, olives, and almonds to snack on. I healed VERY quickly after surgery and reintroduced food back into my diet faster than normally recommended but if you're looking for answers on what YOU should do then you need to talk to YOUR doctor. If you're going to do what you WANT to do anyway then there's not much reason to find out we did. Lol. I'm not trying to be negative but I think a lot of us are used to people coming in here asking when other people ate to justify being able to eat early. We will not condone that. You break your doctor's rules, you risk screwing up your very expensive surgery and that will be on you. I may have eaten sooner and gotten away with it but that doesn't mean it will work for anyone else. Just my $.02.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
