Self paid Bandsters, what other expenses might I have beside the surgery.

Recommended Posts

Did any of you have any other expenses after surgery? I plan on financing the surgery, because my insurance does not cover WLS. So besides the surgery, I would like to hear what else you were charged or billed for. I want to make sure this is something I can afford. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

I paid $100 consultation fee

Pre-op:

Lab fee total: $105.90

cxr & ekg total: $57

Surgery total: $9,900

This included: surgeon, anesthesia & all hospital charges. I had no other out-of-pocket expenses because it was a discounted "cash price". I did not stay the night in the hospital, but was told I could.

Dietitian:

$50 per visit

(seen once at 1 1/2 wks post-op)

Fills:

$250 each

(all done under fluoroscopy)

Note: it has been 1 month & 2 days since my surgery & I have not received any "rogue" bills..lol.. so if there was going to be any billing "hiccups" I'm pretty sure they would have hit me up for some more cash by now!

--hope this helps

Also I stocked up on post-op food:

(this is key for compliance)

EAS Protein shakes -3 cases

(because after fills you keep going back to shakes so you will always consume them)

chicken broth

Beef broth

...whatever list they give you, stock up

My hubby boxed up all food that I could no longer eat, even though he could, and gave it away. He said it did not even need to be in the house to temp me, so we have absolutely no cheater food in our home.

I used True Results as self pay and one year of follow-up was included. Some of the office visits may be covered as routine visits under your regular insurance. You can always do any lab work on your regular PCP and just take the results over to your WLC center. I have a regular visit with my PCP next week to review labs and then have a fill schedules a few hours later, so they all share the same results over the single jab.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
