I see so many posts on here of people looking for a quick fix. People who say I've only lost 25 pounds in a month......I've been banded for 4 months and I'm down 27 pounds. I've have been very good about what I eat and exercise a lot. Should I have lost more? Probably. But I'm still down 27 of which without the band I know I wouldn't be down any, if not up. So be grateful for small losses or any for that matter, and don't expect to lose a ton of weight quickly.

It all depends on how much you have to lose overall.. also my Dr. said 1-2 lbs a week is good.. you are right on target.. don't compare yourself with others.. weight loss is varied depending on your body.. I have been banded for 7 months and I have lost 50 # and I am extremely happy.. but I only have 25 or so more to lose.. so if it takes awhile I am fine..good luck on your continued success.

Agree. I don't know what it is, but every body is different. I'm averaging about 6lbs a week, which is great. I wonder what I'd lose if I didn't cheat...

I think most people who complain about only losing 25 pounds are including weight they lost from pre-op which can be sometimes around 20 pounds. I know before surgery I lost 18 pounds and I include that in my total weight loss, so they might not be losing as much as it seems.

I'm definitely grateful that I've lost 23 lbs in one month, last thing I want to do is complain.. Just thankful that I'm feeling great... everyone is different

People with a lot of weight to lose generally lose faster. And it depends on whether they're exercising, whether they feel any restriction etc. So absolutely everyone is different.

I lost about 7 - 10lbs a MONTH, not a week. But with only 80lbs to lose that was a lot for me, but I won't lie, I exercised like a dog and ate like a bandster even without restriction. I lost all my weight in 7 months. And I would have people tell me I was lucky coz I was losing relatively steadily and quite fast for a low BMI bander. No, that wasn't luck, that was work.

SO I think people should align their expectations with how much they actually put into it. That's realistic. Look at what someone else is doing and before you compare weight loss, maybe compare how much work they're doing compared to how much you're doing too.

Like most of us, I was told 1-2 lbs a week which seems to be where I am at now even though I feel like I am at a plateau. We all want it to happen so quickly but the truth is that it is a process and takes time and we all need to be patient and not compare!

I'm getting to the frustrated phase wondering if I'm eating a quarter of what I used to eat and feel a lot better then why doesn't the scale show. Today I reminded myself of a comment made by a person on this board "it took a while to put it on, a while longer to take it off". But hey, I'm human & I want to shout sometimes. Then I go to this board to calm down. Thanks guys

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
