:D Banded December 6, 2013 :D

Well I had my band put on at the Weight loss Clinic in Overland Park, Kansas. Dr Ellison did my surgery and well 2 hours after my surgery I was already up walking around. I had met another lady there that had hers done that day and we just walked and talked about what we was feeling and the goals we had.

Now 5 days post-op...I think today Im feeling my best. Prior days I wasnt feeling so well. I think I had myself on the verge of dehydration. But I went home from work, ( yes..work..went back 2 days after my surgery) and bought some tea, and made myself some warm tea, ate some popciles, and sipped on Water for the rest of the evening..My daughter said mom.."Your looking better, not so pale".

But the reason that I wasnt drinking as much is because I felt full from eatting the liquids or mushie. So I didnt think I needed or could have anything. But that my friend is totally not true.. WATER..is the answer..feeling alot better today.

I have my post op appt with my doctor tomorrow to check my incisions...Just taking it day by day :) Stay in touch..I would like to see how everyone is doing.

Hello everyone, I get my band on December 19th! I was hoping some of you who recently got your bands could tell me what to expect as far as pain and recovery goes! I am so ready to start this new chapter in my life. I started this journey at 270 lbs 20 weeks ago, and I'm currently 209. Hoping to reach 150 lbs by my birthday on June 10th! If I can meet this goal, I will rock a bikini and make up for the first time in my life. I'm 31 and from PA. The proud mother of 7 beautiful children (5 biological). Please share your exeperiences with me, I would love some band buddies. The 1,000 calorie pre operative diet has been very easy for me. I consumed 740 calories today and burned 1,529 calories on my exercise bike.

The only pain I felt was when I had to use my stomach muscles, Getting out of the bed, getting up from the couch etc, I took my drugs for 4 days and that was all that was needed. I wonder how long these stiches are going to take to heal though. I couldn't take a shower/bath for 72 hours, and no sex for 4 weeks, that's killing me. I only have one child if you can rock a bikini after giving birth to 5 I'm very jealous. At the hospital I didn't stay long 30 minutes, I got up walked around, had some Water and was discharged. I have not counted any calories and have lost about 25 pounds, I was banded 12/2/2013.

Well Im almost 7 days post op..Today was probably by far the worst day. I went to my first follow up and not good..I had dyhydrated my self and well was malnourished. I didn't understand the pain of this, I didn't understand if I was hutring, full, swollen, something stuck, hungry. There was so much going on. So going in today they took one look at me and said..we need to get you hydrated..so they ordered an IV. Then she said you need something to eat...so they sent my boyfriend out to get me something. He came back with St Louis bread Co. chicken noodle Soup. OMG was I really going to chew something? So..first bite...of anything that has had substance. OMG it tasted so good. What had I done to myself...not eating..I had to get physiologically right in my head that ...Lapbandchic you just had surgery, the band is WIDE OPEN....You can eat. Don't be scared that something is goin to get stuck.

So from here on out...Im goin to take the ibuprofen if I need it and know that right now Im healing..i need to eat...so with that..Im goin to get a sugar free popsicle

How is everyone? I'm finally feeling pretty good. I'm in the "full liquid" phase through Wednesday, then I get to start puréed. I surely wasn't expecting such a drastic weight loss this early on. I've lost 13 lbs since my preop appt on 12/3. I hope I can keep it off as I progress to real food. I weighed 287 when I started this process in May, now I'm down to 245. I haven't been this "little" since 2006. Exciting times!

I have my Lapband surgery on 12/20/13...I'm having mixed emotions which I think are my nerves as it gets closer to the date. I was denied Lapband twice because of my bmi being to high but finally got approved this last time. Guess it's true what they say "3x's" a charm! ;)

I'm three days post op, the first day was hell and the doctors were a bit nervous of my reaction after I came to from the anesthesia but I'm feeling okay now. Back to work and everything. Not checking my weight loss until I see the docs next but I'm pretty sure I'm losing weight.

Woot! My surgery date is also the 20th. I'm currently on a liquid diet. How are you doing ? I'm nervous as well. I guess I'm most worried about pain and recovery. Oh and maybe the surgery lol

I was banded on Monday and still in a lot of pain. I'm trying to get up and walk around and that helps but my incision site hurts the worst. I'm not hungry at all and so I'm forcing myself to drink the liquids. My incision site also is bleeding just a bit. I called the doctor and since it wasn't much at all they said not to worry. It's starting to bleed a bit more but still not bad. I'm miserable. What all are you guys doing for your full liquid diet? Protein Shakes, chicken broth, juices, tea, and Tomato Soup. What else is out there? Can we do fruit smoothies if they are fully blended? I tried plain Greek yogurt today and it was too tart.

I am 11 days since my surgery..and Im feeling so much better. Back to eating regular food.. (Smaller portions of course) But today I went and finished my Christmas shopping ( 12 hours of shopping with an overzealous sister) but Im done and I feel great. It was nice to not be winded and be able to keep up with them. I get my first fill on Jan 9th. Im ready for it. Really didn't think I'd be saying that ..after all the pain it was getting thru the healing part. But Im ready. Ready to get on with this journey. :D

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
