Acid Reflux, I think

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since 9/6/05 and the band helped my reflux and heartburn to go away completely. Now, just a month ago I have been waking up every night choking about 4 to 6 times a night, I am guessing acid reflux-it feels a little different then it used to before the lapband. I haven't had a fill since feb and i was fine the first two months with it. Now I am not as restricted and having this problem.

Has anyone had this particular problem and what did you do to help it?

I am right there with you. I am going through the exact same thing right now. Go to the Dr and get some meds for it or at least get it checked out. From what I have been told so far untreated reflux can be BAD BAD BAD fr our band. I am on losec and I dont feel the reflux now, but my Dr wont give me a fill even though I dont have any restriction because I have the reflux.

My doctor will still give me a fill, I am scheduled for the first week of June for a fill. And I don't have much restriction right now. I just started taking prevacid again, I hate having to take medications again. I thought that the band was suppose to prevent reflux? I'm confused. Thanks for your response. Let me know if you find out if there is another fix for reflux besides medicine.

I thought I would kill myself if I had to live another day with acid reflux. The lack of sleep was messing with my mind. I went for a small unfill and I have had no further trouble. Waking up with hot lava in your mouth is not something I ever want to repeat!!!

No ammount of medication would have fixed my reflux. I just needed a small unfill.

Wendy:

That really sounds like post-nasal drip. It will wake you up coughing. Do a search on nasal irrigation. You simply rinse your sinuses with a salt-water solution before bed. Works wonders!

you know it kind of feels like it could be coming from the nasal area, thank you I will definently try that.

Ok, I bought saline yesterday and tried that because I am desperate for sleep and I slept the whole night through which I haven't done in over a month. Thank you so much for that suggestion.

Wendy:

You just made my day! :clap2: I am so happy to have helped.

I have suffered with respiratory problems for many years and have taken TONS of steroids which I blame for most of my weight and other health problems.

After spending years of suffering and lots of $$$$ on treatments for various symptons, heartburn being one of them, I learned about nasal irrigation.

It seems kind of gross at first, but it feels so good it is easy to get addicted! Especially in the cold and flu season.

As weird as this sounds. I finally figured out "my acid reflux" was / is due to me not eating enough. It took almost 4 weeks of looking at foods and times I was eating, it finally stumbled onto the fact it was not the time or any " normal" factors for me it was a calorie "quantity". If I get below 1400- I have horrid reflux- so I have to watch that now.

I am not trying to loose more weight, but their are days that my band "seizes up and Soup is it" due to cycle and moon beams or jupiter or whatever. I have to make sure I eat more or get it in somehow or I pay for it!

I hope the post nasal drip is your cause- cause the lack of sleep can drive you insane!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
