Question about pre-op diet and exercise

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op diet today and felt great. I use the app My Fitness Pal to track calories and my calories for the day were 802. I'm suppose to stay between 800-900 so this was good. I walked and using Map My Walk (awesome app btw!!) it showed I burned 666 calories. Is this ok? I just don't want to go into 'starvation mode' and not lose. Maybe that's why the Protein is so important? I'm just confused so if anyone can explain this to me that would be great.

Congratulations on your new journey. You're doing everything that is ok. Protein is the most important thing to have first. Just follow your doctor and dietitian's rules. Every one has their own. Remember to drink Water, Crystal Light, zero calorie drinks. I have around 10-12 8 oz drinks a day. I am a tea drinker. Also, SF popsciles are great to have. I like Edy's the best.

Good luck!

Welcome to the board and congratulations on taking this step towards a much healthier lifestyle. My suggestion for this phase you are in, is to not go overboard. Stick to the plan as outlined by your doctor, as the purpose of the pre-op diet is to work on shrinking your liver so that it is not in the way during surgery.

You are beginning to develop great lifestyle changes by eating less and exercising, just keep that up once you're done with your surgery.

Good luck and keep us posted with your success story!

Thank you! I might have to go easy on the exercise. I felt terrible this morning with a headache and I was lightheaded. coffee, Protein Shake and advil did wonders though! I will definitely be getting some SF popciciles to treat myself. (Note to self.. hide them from the child) I've also been doing a lot of crystal light. I recently discovered the liquid squeeze bottles. Blueberry Raspberry is my favorite. I think I'm kind of addicted to it actually!!

Burning 666 calories is not good because that's the 'diet of the devil' and will lead to all kinds of terrible sins such as devil's food cake overdose and never being able to eat angel's food cake ever again. I think you may need an exercism :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
