Yes it was weird it like absorbed the gas yet I didn't burp or fart.... I farted like crazy with the gas x strips. I took like 6 strips at a time. I also would sit with my legs bent it made it easier to fart without having to push cause that hurt my belly. The charcoal was 10 bucks at Walgreens and found it near gas x it's called charco caps. Walgreens was the only place I could find it

I posted this on the pre-surgery July lap-banders thread and decided I should probably post it here too. I had my surgery last Thursday 7/18, and am feeling great now! Was kind of sore and bloated feeling the first couple of days (in spite of taking lots of Gas-x and walking around), but didn't have very much pain at all in my shoulders from the gas. Also didn't have any nausea when I woke up from surgery, which was a VERY pleasant surprise! I always wake up nauseated from surgery. I've lost 11 pounds in the week and a day since I had my surgery, which is very motivating! I have to say, the biggest surprise for me has been the hunger. I didn't realize I'd still be hungry a lot, especially in the first few days when I could hardly get anything down. I have 6 more days of full liquid diet, and am looking forward to moving on to the soft foods!

Good luck to any remaining surgeries this month! Hope all goes well for everyone! :)

I am so glad to hear your story... Not quite sure if i am feeling hungry or if its gas! I am thinking hunger but I get so full so fast that I guess it will take time for my body to adjust! My surgery was 7-24 so I am 2 days out!

I actually woke up from surgery with hunger pains - strangest thing! Although, if you think about it, I hadn't had anything to eat since the evening before my surgery, so usually you would be hungry when you wake up. I guess I hadn't done enough research to learn that you still have hunger hormones with lap-band surgery (and you don't with gastric bypass or gastric sleeve). I know that once we get to eat solids again, we shouldn't feel hunger if we're doing it correctly because that food will sit in the pouch for quite a while and make you feel full. At least that's the way I understand it all. I couldn't even get any Protein shake down the first couple of days though - mostly sipped on some of that light cranberry juice (50 calories per 8 oz., so at least I was getting something), popsicles and Water. Popsicles were my saving grace! It really does get better quickly though. :)

i had the same hunger issue, I was banded 07/15. I have lost 11lbs so far also but the hunger was a little surprising. I had to put myself on an eating schedule much like you would do a newborn. If I felt hungry and wasn't do to eat I would have Water. That helped some. I start mushies Monday, I can't wait!! LOL!!

So my weight loss stalled last week :( I wan't getting any Protein in because the taste of Protein powder makes me nauseous ( I had one successful chocolate espresso one, but next time I tried it I gagged at every sip)....

BUT I found GNC's Lean25, and after 2 days of doing one shake each morning I dropped 4 lbs. I guess I booted my body out of the dreaded "starvation mode" with the protein! Still don't love it but it's doable.... and worth it!

Also curious about the unjury unflavored Protein powder... anyone tried it?

If you get the brand Body Fortress chocolate flavored Protein Powder from Walmart it is actually pretty good! Mix one scoop with 6oz of skim milk and there are 30 grams of protein! I tried Isopure first but honestly it taste awful! Hope maybe that helps!

I tried a packet of Unjury unflavored in iced tea and it was disgusting. Maybe that is just the wrong combo. I just bought a tub of Syntrex unflavored and I'm gonna try to mix it into Soups n stuff.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
