So im 4 1/2 wks post op, now on regular foods as tolerated. I have had absolutely no trouble with anything I've tried to eat. I read alot about everyone getting stuck on eggs, some meats and esp bread products wraps etc. I've eaten pork chops, bread, had a wrap today, eggs everyday, etc. I mean I don't WANT to get stuck or have issues, im totally cool with it but I just wondered is this normal for anyone else having no trouble on anything? Even had broccoli that wasn't very well done n still just chewed alot n was fine. I have no fills obviously cuz im only a month post op, do the stuck issues start after I get some fills maybe?

I am a little over a month post op.... No fills yet either. I haven't gotten stuck but I definitely notice a "tightness" when I don't chew well and slow down my eating. My doc says that he has had some patients never needing a fill. Do you feel any "tightness" when you eat starchy foods?

I finally felt stuck and actually threw up a little after my second fill. Before that It seemed I could eat anything and the amounts were still too big.

Suck came for me when I got comfortable and forgot to chew enough.

Best luck to you on your journey!!!

I'm banded six months and have had no fills. I too can eat anything so I'm very careful to portion out my food accurately. After I eat, I am satisfied and don't look to eat more. Once I overate a little and was uncomfortably full for several hours afterwards so I really pay attention to portions.

From what I've read on this forum, when bandsters get fills, they often have difficulty with foods that they could eat before fills but some people can still eat anything even with fills.

My situation is not typical...71 lbs. down in 6 1/2 months (including 2 week preop diet) with no fills.

If you are satisfied and not hungry...or looking to eat between meals, you might not need a fill.

I am definitely feeling restriction and am doing well with my portions... If I can get my chewing under control and better train myself to slow down my eating, I am considering holding off on getting a fill for a while. Especially if I am still loosing weight. We shall see.

You are correct stuck issues usually come along with fills. In the weeks when my band was empty (post op) I could eat anything with no issues at all and could still eat a lot. After a couple fills the stuck issues really began. I have trouble with breads, potatoes, seafood and most of all beef. There r some days when I can't drink much at all as well.

I definitely stick to exact portions, Im not overeating at all, it's just that the little I do eat goes down so easy, I feel nothing, I can take bigger drinks than I thought I would be able to, it's as if I have nothing in me if it wasn't for the incisions and the port I can feel. I'm not hungry between meals so I don't want a fill, just wondered if anyone else had it so easy. Only time I get an over full feeling is with Protein Shakes not food.. Weird..

Nah...not weird. You sound alot like me. I can guzzle Water no problem...I have inadvertently eaten larger bites than I should and have no issues. The difference between before banding and after banding is the not hungry between meals, and satiety after eating a fraction of what I used to chow down. I'm hoping this lasts and I can do this without ever needing a fill.

Okay, why does everyone what to feel a stuck episode???? Trust me you don't!

Getting stuck means that you took too big a bite, didn't chew enough, and/or are too tight. It is not fun and you don't want to experience that if you don't have to.

Your band is working if you can go 3-4 hours without feeling hungry. If 1/2 - 1 cup of food fills you up. If you are loosing inches/weight.

I have been banded almost 18 months and yes I have gotten stuck, but I learned really quick that I didn't want to feel that again.

I can eat anything and everything. I make choices that are best for me. My band is a tool that helps with my portion sizes and hunger. It doesn't make my food choices, I make my food choices.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but getting stuck doesn't mean the band is there and working, it means you are pushing the envelope.

In my original post I stated I didn't want to get stuck just wondering why it was so easy for me to get everything down. I've never went over my alloted portion size, I chew very thoroughly and slow and take at least 20min to eat a half cup of food. I eat 3 times a day as instructed 60grams of Protein and hover around 500 calories a day, track my Water intake, protein intake and my fitness pal for cal intake. Doing everything right as far as I know. Just wondering if anyone was as "lucky" as I've been with having no trouble getting all diff types of food down easily. I've been scared of breads so I stayed away for a while but did fine w it now so I guess im good. I know the purpose of the band, and i'm full for hrs between meals w no fills. Im a nurse and overly researched it for yrs so I think I have a pretty good grasp..

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
