Ill keep this as clean as possible. Has anyone had issues with going #2? I was banded Jan 8th and by the second day I was in so much pain I was close to going to the ER. Several bottles of Water with Miralax, 2 enemas and some 'soul searching' to release the impact in my bowels I was much better. 6 months later...same situation. Except now im on vacation and don't have access to all the other things. I did some 'soul searching' this morning and this evening and finally got relief. This time was different because I had some blood as I relieved myself. What are you taking (daily or otherwise) to prevent hard and near impossible to pass stool? When I fly back tomorrow im going to make an appointment with the dr about the blood in the stool part.

I never had any problems with BM's before the surgery, so I was surprised when it happened after. I was banded last August and have had to take 2 colase (stool softener) every day. I also have to make sure I'm eating enough fruit to help it along. Just keep trying different combinations until you find what works for you. It is also known that traveling disrupts your 'schedule', so you'll probably be better once you get home.Good luck!

Have had this problem since being banded as well. Just a week behind you BTW...I was banded on January 14th. I take Dulcolax stool softener and I still have issues...I get all stopped up for a couple of weeks and then I explode. Told my pcp about this last week and she immediately put me on a new drug that treats irritable bowel syndrome and also told me to start taking Mirilax. She said it was very important to get my bowels moving. Have not started the Mirilax yet. The new meds seem to help some. You should talk to your dr. because my dr. said I could develop diverticulitis which is pretty serious. Good luck...make sure to follow up with your dr.

Miralax is my cure. It takes a couple days to work but when it does the stool is soft.

I use colace and miralax everyday. My bm's are very hard and kill. These 2 meds are prescriptions. Ask your doctor about them.

I picked up some stool softener today and am going to add the miralax back to my diet. Im not a fan of this 'soul searching' as it feels like sometimes. Definitely going to talk to the dr. Thanks again.

For the first few months after surgery, I took a daily stool softener to help regulate as well as a generic milk of magnesia when I needed to.

About 6-8 months in, I was able to stop taking those because my diet was varied enough that I got all the Fiber needed from diet alone.

Make sure to take a fiber supplement if needed and drink plenty of Water. I would also work on eating fruits/veggies as they really help with proper regulation.

I use magnesium citrate, can be in liquid or capsule form. I open the capsules to get them down easier. I gee more fiber, but that won't help immediately. So try some magnesium citrate. Best wishes, I too, have problems and get help with the daily dose. Karen

I use clear soluble Fiber, the generic equivalent of Benefiber. I take one TBS daily in Water. (No added taste to the Water and it dissolves well.) It works great! BTW, I have combination Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which means I deal with Constipation and diarrhea. The clear soluble fiber helps with both.

I have had a problem since I was banded a year ago and only for it to get increasingly worse. My doctor finally had to prescribe a medicine called lactulose because nothing else was working. I also have to take miralax twice daily. I have always had bowel issues but they are much more chronic after having my son and having surgery.

My surgeon told me the following...take a stool softener daily...if you need to, add powdered fiber, and only use miralax as a last resort.

I take mirilax daily in my Protein Shake. I took benefiber preop, but that just wasn't cutting it. If you are really straining to go, the blood you passed was probably from an internal hemorrhoid. I've had problems with those in the past too.

I had to add Benefiber to my coffee in the morning to stop the Constipation. Post-op constipation is normal since the pain meds cause it. After that, think of it this way.... we're not eating to excess, so there isn't much to expel. Try adding a little dairy too.. .solid dairy Proteins like babybel cheese, string cheese, cottage cheese, etc. ... not sliders like milk and yogurt.

Funny thing is... when I used to get "stopped up" before the band, I'd just get McDonalds to solve that problem. Ha! Not anymore.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
