How long after surgery.....

Recommended Posts

I know I've seen a few of these before, but haven't seen these specific questions. My two main ones are how long after surgery were you able to swim (preferably in the ocean) and how long until you were able to lift heavy things? My surgery was pushed back 2 weeks, and now my timeline for a couple things has me a little concerned. The major one is that I am moving apartments on August 10, and my surgery is July 10. Do you think it would be feasible to me able to move furniture and boxes by then? Also, I have a beach trip planned for the week after, like August 14. My old surgeon said 6 weeks for public swimming but I just changed surgeons and won't get to ask him these questions until my preop appointment which is the day before my surgery. I tried to ask his office staff on the phone today and they impolitely told me that my Dr could answer my questions at my preop appointment. So if anyone could give me an idea what your surgeon told you that would be great!

Day 6 Post- Op. Hello, I can tell you what my doctor said. He told me 2 -3 weeks before I could lift more than 10 m pounds. I am 5 weeks away from moving myself and I think it is safe to say I will be able to help with minimal things (light boxes, putting things away, ect ) but moving my couch, tables and thing NOPE not gonna happen. And as far as swimming I was told 2 weeks of no swimming or baths, short showers only. I guess it depends on how you are stitched up after surgery? I have this superglue(ish) substance that is covering my incisions. Hope your plans work out well and good luck with your band!

Thanks for the info! That's what I was worried about was not being able to help move my furniture! Guess I'll have to use my dad and brother for that! I feel bad but I don't really have any other options as I have to move and that's the only week to do it!!

I was not allowed to lift more than 20lbs for 8 weeks after surgery. The doctor said he had only had one female flip their port but he has had several men flip one from moving things from refrigerators to falling off a roof while the guy was trying to lay new shingles. That scared me enough to wear my hubby lifted everything for me. I was able to swim again at 6 weeks but no idea about the ocean.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
