Scale is all over the place

Recommended Posts

One day I am down seven pounds and the next it is only two. What is up with this. Is my scale broken or me. It's frustrating when I am sticking to my diet. Scared they will reschedule me for not losing weight before surgery to shrink my liver

I hardly lost anything before surgery.. And Water weight kills us women! The shrink of liver is just the fat intake in your food.. Not weightloss fat! Don't worry :) just stick to your diet!

I agree 100% with Dani_NYC, don't worry about the actual amount of weight you are loosing. Follow your diet and the rest will fall in line. Also make sure you are going on the scale around the same time each day. You are going to weigh less first thing then you will in the afternoon after you have ate and drank. Not by much but it will fluctuate.

Don't stress about it. As long as you follow the doc directions you will be ok. The scale will bounce based on Water retention, time of day weighed, salt intake, pooped or not, type of food eaten, water intake, time of the month, medications, ect. Therefore the scale is not the only measure of success.

Sounds like Water weight. You might think about tracking your body fat percentage instead. I believe it to be a better way to measure your progress. They even have scales that have the feature built right into them.

One other thing that I'm thinking..... If I move my scale to different areas on the floor, I'll get a totally different reading. The scale can be a little to the side of usual; above or below it's typical spot, and it fluctuates. So.....in addition to all the good suggestions above, make sure that your scale is always in the same exact spot ;)

Wow I'm soo glad that someone else is experiencing the same thing that I am...well not really because this fluctuating scale thing sucks. I was down like 9 lbs the week after my first visit with my surgeon and I was over the moon. But the next week I was only down 2lbs. I hate when that happens because then I get obsessed and discouraged by the numbers...like I tried really hard to stick to the new eating requirements, but with no reward. Makes me want to just eat again. (Sigh)

My suggestion is......stay off the scale! If you're doing everything your supposed to be doing, and the numbers on the scale are damn near making you want to sabotage your program......stay off of it. Weigh yourself once every couple of weeks. I can't deal with the scale, either. And because of that, I only weigh once every week or two. Give yourself a break

I started my pre-op diet three days ago and it's hard to stay off the scale but I definitely think it's a good idea to stay off. If you follow What you're supposed to be doing, you'll be ok! :)

What are your requirements?

Most of the pre-surgery weight loss is going to be fluids.

The goal, from what I have read, is to make the liver less "slippery," and easier to work around when placing the band. I can tell you my surgeon almost gave up trying to place my band due to my having a "fatty" liver. I lost the weight pre-surgery, but I ended up in the OR for an extended time. Thankfully he was able to place the band on his last attempt.

Follow the diet. I wouldn't worry about the scale, as the scale often doesn't accurately reflect was is taking place inside of the body. Fluid retention can mask weight loss.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
