Ok so it's been 1 week since my surgery and I'm starting to get hungry! Can't eat like I used too mind but I just made Pasta and sauce and puréed it' only had 4 spoons fulls and chucked it away!! I know this is naughty! Please tell me the importance of staying to liquid types of food as I'm afraid my band could slip because I won't heal properly!! This is hard!!!!

You might find it helps to have more savory type liquids. I got so tired of sweet Protein Shakes post-op! I ended up having homemade broth. I felt more "normal" since I don't eat sweet every meal normally.

You are right, this is hard...

Hang in there. Liquids will be over before you know it!

I know, so frustrating, isn't it... you can do it... it will pass by more quickly than you think. Try to look forward to "mushy" foods as you can add quite a lot that is tasty to your diet at that point. I don't think your one slip-up will hurt you, but I believe the purpose of this is that other foods are heavier and can stretch the pouch or dislodge stitches or the band while you are healing (anyone, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this). Hang in there... another week and you can have the very tasty "lasagna bowl" (recipe is on the forums here) which is purely soft foods. Right now, as rkimom mentioned, some savory Soups might help - I found a very tasty potato and leek Soup which I diluted and pureed to liquid and I enjoyed it.

I was starving about a week after my surgery. Every TV commercial made me want to have anything that wasn't chocolate or vanilla!

I found somewhere on here, a suggestion for Wendy's chili. Throw it in the blender for a second or two to mush it up and a scoop of fat free sour cream and OMG it was AWESOME. So good after all that shake and chicken Soup.< /p>

Give it a try you will love it and if you're really up for it, make your own Turkey Chili, lots of vegies and blend that all up for a second and you will be happy with your paste of chili trust me!

Keep in mind a restaurant will put anything in a blender that you need them to or chop it up into small pieces. I ate out almost every meal for the first year! You will enjoy the company and find things to eat.

I can't wait until I can get to Stage 2. I had some post surgery problems with swelling and I am still on stage 1 having trouble getting the shakes down.

Try adding unflavored Protein Powder to broths. You can also add other spices you like to break up the sweet. Sip Water all the time.

What's broths?

broth is what you get when you cook beef or chicken bones in Water with some vegetables and strain it. It's a very good Protein source is you make your own.

Not so much if you use a canned product.

Unjury Protein Shakes has a chicken one that I hear is just as wonderful as their Protein shakes! I just ordered them online in preparation of my surgery date. I also heard that you can buy mushroom broth as well as the beef, chicken, and veggie broth! I am not a big sweet eater so the chicken Unjury (20g protein) is going to be my friend. Hope this helps..... it will make it easier to get your Proteins in...Lisa

When I was still recovering from my surgery, I made some home made broth/stock and when I was able to move onto thicker liquids I made things like roasted butternut squash Soup (very easy and delicious), low fat mushroom soup, etc. If you don't cook or don't feel up to it, you can also buy some that are fairly healthy if you look at the Soups that come in a carton rather than a can. You can find many of them in the health food section at your local grocery. If you don't like them straight out of the carton you can always add seasoning or cook some vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, squash) or even a little roasted sweet potato (notice I said a little), until they are soft, puree them and add to your soup. I too quickly tired of sweet items even though I have a huge sweet tooth. In all honesty my giant craving for sweets has greatly diminished since having my band, thank goodness. It helps to break that sugar cycle.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
