Good device that counts calories and monitors heart rate suggestions?

Recommended Posts

So I want to buy a device that will count my calories, track my activity/fitness levels and monitors heart rate (for accurate calorie measuring)

The Fitbit doesn't monitor heart rate and how could it track my activity level while i'm, say, riding a bicycle?

Is there a good device out there other than the fitbit?

I've had a garmin 310xt for a little over a month, and absolutely LOVE it! I have used it for cycling and hiking/walking. It is amazing! Heres an example of what it shows using garmin connect. VERY easy set up.

Hiking/mushroom hunting Sunday : http://connect.garmin.com/activity/298182681

Thanks! Looks like an awesome device!

But wow that's like double what I was wanting to pay...

Do you know of anything cheaper?

I haven't any personal knowledge of other devices. I know 2muchfun has a different one that he likes. I think its compatable with an Iphone and all you need is the HRM strap??? but not sure.

As for mine, I got it for $209 as a factory refurb on ebay.

I have a Polar monitor- it has a strap that goes around your chest so that it can accurately monitor your heart rate and calories burned.

It works with most of the machines in the gym- if you see the Polar logo on the display it will automatically pick up the monitor, making your calorie counts more accurate.

It was a gift from my husband about 2 years ago, I use it almost everyday and never had a problem. I dont know what he paid for it.

Good luck

Thanks Velvet

I'm looking for something that monitors heart rate AND calculated calories burned without needing to be on a machine.

Maybe PM toomuchfun for his device. I think its a Polar that links to his IPhone. I know there are tons of them that do that. I seen one yesterday that plugs into your headphone jack, with a passthrough that lets you still use the jack for music, etc. It was on Heartratemonitor.com i think.

Did you buy a heart rate strap separately? or does this device monitor heart and caloric burn on it's own?

I see it on ebay for 159.00 on ebay and free shipping!

i think I will get it!

Is this something I can wear all day?

You do need the heart rate strap for accurate calories burned. Mine came with it. Just make sure the one you are buying says hrm strap included....or you'll have to buy it seperately. You could wear it all day. It has a twenty hour battery....at least thats what they say. I don't wear mine unless I'm "exercising". riding/walking/xbox'ing/etc. It's on my wrist in my profile pic....it's not a tiny device....

similar to this package.... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=200919162372

Anyone order/receive the new Fitbit Flex yet? It's on back order from Amazon and Fitbit is out and won't be shipping more for 8 weeks. Would love to hear if anyone got one and how they like it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
