Can i get the lap band after having gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone my name is Julie and I am from Louisiana I had gastric bypass in 2007 and I don't know if my pouch expanded or something went wrong I haven't seen the dr since my 6 month checkup. I have gained back about 100 lbs and I still eat like a bird. I just don't understand why I am gaining. It has just been over the last 2 years can I get the band to loose the weight

You can get the band over bypass, but first you need to figure out why you're gaining.

It doesn't matter which WLS you choose you will have to change your lifestyle and eating habits dramatically. Plus, just because you're eating small amounts doesn't mean you're not having a lot of calories.

I would do a couple things before deciding on another WLS- get back into your doctor and let him make sure your stomach is ok and go see a nutritionist so they can help you figure out where you need to make nutritional changes. Once those things are done, then see if you still want or need the band over bypass.

Best wishes.

Sorry... bad analogy... birds eat 1 to 2 times their weight every day. LOL. It sounds like you should start with your original surgeon and confirm that everything is ok from the original surgery. I would think long and hard about a second procedure. None of the surgeries guarantee weight loss if you do not change you lifestyle.

I would start asking the doctors to look in to other options of what might be wrong - Thyroid - Hormones - Cortisol levels - etc.

After much testing from my doctor we found that my body survives on a much lower calorie rate than normal bodies (1200 is usually a diet calorie, for my body type it maintains, I have to eat 800 calories or less to lose any weight.) If anything it will at least better inform you and give you light on where you want to go from there.

Hello,

I know that some people are getting the band ontop of the gastric surgery. You should really research and see why you gained weight. Do you journal the food you consuke daily and do you count calories. You should also see your Dr. and talk to him. Wish you the best

people gain weight simply by eating more calories than they burn off......and that turns into excess body weight...you can eat like a bird but eat all high fat/high calorie....that being said, the other posters gave great advice. ..just having surgery wont make you lose weight..it takes a lifestyle commitment/change and want power....want to lose weight enough to change your life...and then do it...no excuses...that is exactly what i did.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
