Social Stigma and Full Disclosure

Recommended Posts

I only told my husband, and a friend that also has a band. I don't feel like dealing with everyone else's issues about my body, and my choice to do something about my weight. And the band is definitely not "the easy way out". This has been no walk in the park. But with out it I wouldn't have lost as much weight as I have. If someone asks me I won't lie, but I certainly won't volunteer that information. I have friends who have bands that constantly get asked stupid questions and have everything they do scrutinized. I'm happy with my decision to not tell anyone.

when people ask me questions that I think are rude I try to say "Now why would you be interested in that?" Not always that nice but I try

I am a very private person. I told my boss because I needed to take some time off but I didn't even tell HR what procedure I was having. I told 2 friends, both of whom I wish would have the surgery. I told my husband and my 21 year old daughter, but only because she was nagging about my eating when I was on the 2 week pre-op diet.

My sons all think I had a hernia operation. Actually, my surgeon repaired my hiatal hernia when he put in the lap band.

It's been almost 9 weeks since I was banded and I've lost about 27 pounds. Funny, none of my friends has said a word so I guess I must have been really fat if nobody notices that much weight loss - LOL! When and if they do notice, I plan to say that I am dieting but do not plan to disclose the surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
