Surgery Scheduled for March

Recommended Posts

Tues is my day. So excited(and a little worried). Any advise for eating tomorrow and Monday. Drs instructions were just to continue the liver shrink but wondering if going all liquids what make for a little easy recovery.

I was allowed a Protein of 4-6oz if u had to chew something, but the last 2 days on pre-op I went for complete liquids.

Any one experience lower leg pain post op? If so how long did it last? I had it in the calves of both my legs. The pain in the right leg has gone away. I still have it in my left leg though. I'm 5 days post op.

Make sure you watch that leg, if it swells and or changes color you need attention fast. It could then be a blood clot.

I don't want to scare you, but I was warned about it because of the anesthesia. Water and walking was what they told me to do to guard against it.

But then again it could be from them moving you from bed to bed.

Thanks I've been walking and drinking, it feels better after walking a while but first thing in the morning when I get out of bed its bad. I'm feeling pretty good other than that.

Just checking back in. I was out of commission so long with my complications & did not really want to discuss them here out of respect for those who are yet to be banded. Still not much hunger & doing great!

I was given 12 hours before surgery to fast. And the 24 prior to that I was only allowed Clear Liquids. I don't think it makes for an easier recovery. But I don't think it hurts! Good luck! Keep us posted!

I completely understand the mental hunger. I want to eat something so bad but my stomach says no way. I find as I am eating that i get to a point where the food feels like it doesnt want to go down (like it is stuck or going down the wrong way) I had the iband (so stomach is smaller) no fill yet. I am really looking forward to getting my first fill though so that I can start seeing more weight loss. I havent gained since the surgery on the 12th but havent really lost much either. I lost 10 before surgery and I have lost 8 since. Not too bad. I wish the hunger would subside though. When my stomach growls it actually hurts. Got to start mushies yesterday my doc is also letting me have canned tuna or chicken' date=' soft cheese and soft eggs. I had an egg over easy yesterday it was amazing. Tuna salad today with fat free mayo was not bad either but tasted so salty. Anyone else have mushies that they are enjoying?[/quote']

Good mushie - cauliflower chopped and cooked with chicken stock. Flavor with curry powder or other seasoning u like. Mash and enjoy. Lots of Fiber low carb and filling

Please call your doctor! Since it's both sides it's less likely, but lower leg pain after a surgery is a warning sign for a blood clot. Hopefully it's nothing, but it could be something serious.

Mint tea is great, especially if you are nauseated. Natural remedy.

True! And peppermint tea helps with the gas pains. It's what they gave me in the hospital when I had my first kid (by c-section). Worked very well.

I have a question for anyone who has already been banded. Did anyone experience a cramp in their side that really bothers them when they try to sit down or get up? This cramp is like a stitch in your side you get from walking a lot or running. The cramp isn't really near any of the incisions but it a constant cramp and wasn't sure if this is normal.

Thanks :)

I had a little bit of this it felt like charley horses in my calfs which usually means dehydration. I drank Water and stretched them and it got better.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
