Sara, the sodas are a no-no because of the carbonation and the gas it creates is what I have read and been told.

My date is February 20th due to work schedule, wish it was sooner!! Any nerves I have about the surgery is completely overshadowed by my excitement to achieve my weight loss goals and enjoy the rewards of a healthier lifestyle! It's gotta be better than this right?

Hi there. My date has been changed 3 times, but prayerfully I'm staying on 14 February. What a Valentine's present to me!

I've been trying powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes. www.unjury.com They have a sample pack that's only about $20 I think. But they are good. I also ordered from www.drugstore.com Carb Solutions High Protein shake Mix. I keep that one at work and the Creamy vanilla is really good.

I like the Unjury because it comes indiviually packaged. I'm on the go a lot, so I don't need something that I have to measure out. The Carb Solutions I do...but I'm at my desk so it's not a problem.

I also just ordered ProtiDiet Protein fruit Drink Concentrate from www.bariatricchoice.com I am a fan of grape kool-aid, so I ordered the grape flavor. just got it in the mail, so I'll be trying it soon. It has 15g of protein, no fat and 2g Carbs--so we'll see.

Also check www.bariatricadvantage.com I ordered a Nextar sample pack. Haven't tried them yet. This site has a wealth of information! Vitamins, supplements, all kinds of good stuff.

I've been tryin to incorporate 1 Protein Shake in my daily diet to get used to it. One week before I start my 14 day pre-op diet, I will include 2 Protein Shakes. Hopefully that will ease the shock to my system and I won't have the side effects that everyone talks about. If I do have the side effects...I'll just deal with them...come too far to turn back now Praise God! :D

Hope something I've shared is helpful. Be blessed.

I decided to try Unjury because I'm lactose intolerant. It contains whey protein isolate. It was a huge plus that it tastes good! I don't start my pre-op diet until next month. However, I tried it yesterday. I wanted to make sure I liked it before ordering more. I really didn't expect it to taste good. :)

I bought the unjury shakes as well! I put the chocolate one in my food processor with a frozen banana and a tiny bit of milk and it came out like ice cream. It was really good! I also bought the unflavored and the chicken Soup one. I'm rather skeptical of the chicken Soup flavored one but I will try it today and let you guys know. I like that the powder has low carbs in it.

Change of topic: do you guys have any short term weight loss goals? My boyfriend is planning a trip to Big Sky, Mt for mid March and I am so excited! I was already thinking this will be the perfect short term motivation I need. I would like to lose 30 pounds by then but I don't know if that is ridiculous.

I feel you! I had to push my date out by weeks after I was cleared by insurance and my surgeon due to my work schedule. Otherwise, I would have been banded by now. What do you do?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
