Lap band + plication

Recommended Posts

I had my preop appointment today. My surgery is scheduled for 1/16/13. I was wondering if anyone out there had Lap Band AND Plication done at the same time. My doctor - who I trust - mentioned it to me and I am on the fence. Does anyone have any advice/history/experience with this? (http://www.realresultswls.com/laparoscopic-gastric-band-plication/)

Thanks!

There are several people who have both on this site who post often so I am sure they will reply soon.

Congrats on taking the first step!

Search for posts by Carolina Girl. I had plication done after the fact when they had to go in and restitch my slipped band in November. Right now I really can't comment on it because I only have 2 cc's in my band and I don't feel like the band or the plication either one is helping me yet.

I will say that I do regret not getting the plication done initially when I had my band done.

I had the lap band with plication, I'm very happy with it. I'm down over 50 pounds (40 since surgery) and my first fill is next week. It's great to have another tool to help me.

a friend pm'd me this link to respond

yes i had this procedure in june weighing in at 336

at my last weigh in, i was 248...

so yes, it does work, if you let it.

i will say its not a miracle tool but a helper...it will help you eat less

but i could stretch it by constantly overeating so i choose to abide by the band rules so that does not happen.

any other questions, hit me up anytime.

I too had lap band with plication. I've lost almost 100 lbs (96 to be exact!! Can't wait to hit the big 100) since my surgery date of 8/31/11. I have surpassed my goal weight the nutritionist set for me and now I'm 15 lbs away from weighing what I weighed what I weighed when I was 18! My doctor is now doing them routinely with his lap bands. It helps with the band not slipping and provides extra help by reducing the size of your stomach substantially, without having to have any part of your stomach removed, as in the gastric sleeve. I have no idea if I would have lost the same weight if I had just had lap band alone, however, I've had absolutely NO complications with the surgery and have suffered no stuck episodes, etc. I agree with Carolina girl; it will help you if you let it...and none of these surgeries are the magic bullet, all require HARD WORK.. but I am absolutely SO glad I was able to get the plication along with my lap band. It is my opinion that it only ENHANCES the lap band! One of THE best decisions I've ever made. Good luck!

I just had surgery on 12/19 and got both at recommendation of my doctor. I can't offer as much information as the others but my doctor mentioned a study by Duke University that I read up on. It seems to help people lose more in the beginning. It does add a possible extra complication - for a few the stomach part that is folded over (so to speak) gets inadequate blood flow and causes issues which I think are only resolved by more surgery. So just do your research and weigh the risks.

I too had both and have been very happy with the results. As CG says it will be a great tool... If you WORK for and with the band! Good luck!

I had both done this month. My doctor said he is seeing a lot of success with patients who have both. I am happy I had it done. It made the surgery a little longer. I never had a lap band surgery without plication so I can't compare pain levels. I will keep you updated.

I had Lapband with plication on November 12th 2012 and am down about 30lbs. Personally, I think it's another great tool and why not do even more to make this journey easier on you! Also, my doctor told me that with the plication he sees no reason as to why your band would slip for any reason!

The Plication is NOT new. I work for Bariatric Surgeons who've done it for years. They stopped doing it because if a patient slips their band then off to the operating room you go. Without it & say the Band slips 99% of the time after the Fluid is removed the Band goes back into place on its own WITHOUT having to go back into surgery. I had the option & chose not to because I didn't want that headache of possibly returning to surgery. Also the Plication does NOT make you lose more weight its the dedication of the patient & that's what makes weight loss a success. Trust me, I've seen several patients with Plication that didn't follow the Band diet & didn't lose even 40lbs. I've been successful & lost 100lbs NO Plication. Just doing what I'm supposed to. & also 1yr ago band slipped, but went back into place on its own within a week & no surgery required. #Banded12/22/10. 100lbs down.

Mine slipped because I was sick & was vomiting several times in a two day period. I didn't have pain but had sense enough to call doctors office & ask to come in for X-ray to make sure everything was ok & at this time I found out I'd slipped. Fluid was removed for one week & band went back into place. This happened 1yr after I was banded. #Banded12/22/10. 100lbs lost

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
