Mine slipped because I was sick & was vomiting several times in a two day period. I didn't have pain but had sense enough to call doctors office & ask to come in for X-ray to make sure everything was ok & at this time I found out I'd slipped. Fluid was removed for one week & band went back into place. This happened 1yr after I was banded. #Banded12/22/10. 100lbs lost

I'm so sorry to hear about that! I know my fried had a similar situation happen to her while she was pregnant but hers had to be removed. My doctor told me that the way he places the band with the plication it would be 'nearly' impossible for it to slip but not impossible! :) I was self pay to begin with and decided to do it to prevent further complications and help with my weight loss.

Like I mentioned in my other post, Plication does not help with weight loss or is in any way Magic. The same thing applies with ALL/ANY WLS it's the PATIENT & what work you put in to lose the weight & keep it off. When a Woman becomes pregnant the Fluid is taken out anyways so she can eat to supply nutrients for her unborn child.

By all means (not putting you down) just putting the facts out there for all to see so our Newbies who are undecided about getting WLS don't get the one sided stories or the full picture of what could be a promising decision for them.

I congratulate you for taking such a big step in changing your life. Keep up the good work & much success with your continuation of being the healthier new you. #Banded12/22/10 lost 100lbs

I thought with plication the size of your stomach is reduced (because it is folded in) causing less food to fill you up. Like the sleeve and bypass reduce the size of your stomach. I have heard it tends to speed the weight loss in the beginning, and patients often need less fills. But in the long run weight loss evens out between plication and not. But I don't work with bariatric teams, so I don't have the first hand experience like successful4me does. Please clear up my misconceptions as I am confused now.

4sweeties--that is how it was explained to my by my surgeon as well. I have no idea if it causes "more" weight loss per se, however, it definitely helped me with hunger. I experienced absolutely ZERO "bandster hell" in the beginning. I was rarely, if ever hungry, even prior to fills. An extremely small amount of food filled me up from the very beginning, which was such an odd thing. I remember calling the doctor and actually questioning it, because I couldn't understand why I would feel SO full, after only having so little food. As time went on, that uncomfortable fullness gradually went away. If I overate at all, I felt like I'd just had Thanksgiving dinner. LOL! I don't have any bariatric experience either, my surgeon and my awesome nurse practitioner are the ones who have been helping me along the way. But even then, they admit they don't know everything there is to know about this combined procedure either. But he is one of the first surgeons to be doing the plications in the trials (our office is part of the trials) and trained other surgeons in the procedure as well.

But in the end, it absolutely boils down to how much hard work you put in. I have several friends who have all had lap band and two GB'ers. 2 out of the 3 lap bankers have gained weight back sadly but it's because of their complete lack of following any rules whatsoever...one has kept off over 115 lbs for a few years now and one GB is less than a year out, doing well..the other GB is many years out and is bigger now than she was before she had GB. I definitely think ANY weight loss surgery is still a LIFESTYLE change..and it makes me sad that some people think it's the easy way out. It's still hard...just a different kind of hard.

If you look up stats on the three wls, vsg, plication and lb , the percentage of wl is higher with vsg and plication. You can find the studies anywhere. Of course anyone can sabotage any wls.

If your going to go through the band and plication, might as well get the sleeve or bypass. The band restricts the amount of food you are able to eat, a meal should take 30-45 mins, and by the time it gets to your stomach (plication or not) you should feel full. Just my opinion. I got the band ( no plication) 8.31.11. and have lost 95 lbs. Good luck to everyone pn this journey.

I disagree... the sleeve procedure cuts away stomach tissue permanently. I have the folded in plication with the band and have been very successful.

I agree. I have the plication too. It is less invasive than the vsg but mimics it in the sense that the stomach size is dramatically reduced. I still chew chew, but my food choices are not limited and I am full anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of food depending on what I'm eating. It's like a miracle lol. Sometimes I still can't wrap my mind around how full I get on such a small amount of food!

I was thinking about this this morning and something came into my head that might make more sense why those of us who have the plication might feel it helps a little more. (at least for me, every journey is subjective of course) You know how there are those "slider" foods that you can eat a LOT more of, if you "cheat" the band? Well, with the plication...even if you chose to eat a slider food, and a lot of it, you'd be miserable, where with just a band, the food would slide right through and enter a regular sized stomach that holds much more.

Lap band was the only surgery I had ever entertained, the plication was something my surgeon wanted to add on (for free, I did not have to pay for it.) He explained it to me extensively, and then I researched it, found there wasn't a lot out about it yet, talked with several people (including a friend who is a family physician) and decided in the end, it would be the route I chose.

I personally think that any route to healthy weight loss is the "right" way! :)

The Gastric Plication does help with WEIGHT LOSS.

weight loss can be achievable with it alone,or combined with the Band.Plication is a restriction operation , its the same as the Sleeve except the doctor doesnt cut the stomach away they just fold it in like the shape of a banana, I was up all nite reading about this remarkable tool. and it can be reversed just like the band and with the band there is less chance of it slipping and less fills as well. Insurance won't pay for it because theres not enough history behind it. still under investigation so with that being said it does not have FDA Approved.which means no Insurance will cover it .I wish insurance would cover it because it would be an extra incentive. All WLS will not be magic. It will take work mentally as well as physically. But can work. And anyone can strech their stomach out with over eating. With the sleeve and gastric bypass&Plication

you can all so over eat with the band and slip so there is no confusion if there'something you want to know Investigate it for your self just read up on it.my decision has allways been the band with Gastric Plication but BcBs Feds says no.They will only cover the band.

People cheat with any WLS which is a sad thing. My cousin had the Bypass 4yrs ago & gained all the weight back cause she didn't follow the diet. This pass summer she had a revision & now is doing what's right to lose the weight. Me I'm different & don't take opportunities for granted. I LOVE my Band & have been very happy & successful with it. I eat small amounts of food like I'm supposed to. I have my shakes everyday, I'm not hungry & never have been. It's mind over matter.

I know all about what the surgeries consist of, but bottom line it's Mind over Matter. All WLS has their pros & cons what's best for each individual is & should be discussed with their own Doctor. My choice was the band WITHOUT Plication & I'm happy with my 100lbs lost. I'm maintaining with exercise & eating right. My first month I lost 43lbs so things do work out. All do what's best for you & always always listen to ur Doctor. Our bodies are ALL different & there is NO absolutely NO WLS that is better than the other. What works for you the next person may have complications. Good Luck to all of you with you Journey in becoming a healthier new you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
