Morning Protein Shakes?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who drink a Protein Shake in the am, how long does it hold you?

Since my last fill I am tight and in the mornings I don't really feel like eating something solid, so I decided to give the Protein shakes another try. For the last two days I have drank the Slim Fast High Protein, it has 180 calories, 20 g of protein, 2g of carbs, 2 g of Fiber. The shake taste pretty good and it doesn't give me indigestion like other Protein Shakes have done so a plus plus. However, about 2 hours after I drink it I am hungry. I drink it around 7 am so by 9 I am starved, but I don't want to eat my snack (greek yogurt) until 10 so that will last until my lunch at 12:30-1.

How do the shakes work for you?

I have a Protein shake for Breakfast every morning. 25g of Protein, 4 carbs, 180 calories. I'd say it usually holds me over a good 3-4 hours without hunger.

However, I am really tight in the mornings anyway. I think this may be part of it. If I had a Protein Shake for lunch I'm certain it wouldn't satiate my hunger nearly as long.

liquids are not going to keep you full. They pass right through. Try some greek yogurt after drinking something hot to relax the band. No liquid source is going to keep you full for longer then that. There is no substance for your stomach to digest.

Cheryl- what would you recommend for a good quick Breakfast. I already get up at 5 am and am at work by 6:45 so I have 0 time to cook. I use to do Cereal, but that just doesn't work well anymore.

I eat the quaker oats weight control oatmeal. It does keep me fuller longer. Takes only 45 seconds in the microwave. Carbs in the morning are not bad because you have time to burn them off. I think it has 7 grams of Protein in it so you will be getting some protein early in the morning. Just make it thinner you should have no problems. I also eat greek yogurt too. 14 grams of protein and no fat in that.

I make my own smoothie in the blender......100% whey, with fruit of your choice, Peanut Butter, etc.

I also add 15gm of pure liquid Protein.....total of 40 gm before starting my day....

I find this satisfies me for the whole day, plenty of energy to go to the gym at 5am and run 5 miles every morning......

I am not hungry at all during the day...wether it is the smoothie, the band, or probably both!

I cannot, and have not eaten any solid breakfast for well over 18 months now.....everyday I do the above with great results.....

I have started mixing my Protein Powder in sf pudding sometimes also with PB2. Its very very thick and I find it much more satisfying then a shake but still not too heavey if I dont feel up to food.< /p>

CG- I am envious of you!! Don't know if it's your want power or your plication, but you are rocking this thing.

I discussed doing the plication with my doctor, but he didn't feel like it was warrented. While he does do the plication and band he normally does this on larger patients (300+), since at the initial meeting I was in the 230's he wanted me to really think about it. I chickend out on the plication and just went with the band, maybe I should have done the other.

dont you dare think or be envious. we are in this the same way.

my dr wanted me to do the bypass but i said nope, and he said the plication was new and he said it ((could)) help me lose more if ((and here is the important thing)) if i help it. he stressed id have to eat my allotted amounts and eat protein/veggies (and move). its new and he did it for no charge but i did sign a waiver on it. i am so so thankful he gave me the courage to try and make myself healthy by helping me and also letting me know i have to change what i eat and how much.

i want to be well. so i am doing what i go to do.

your kind words so sweet and nice.

(you just keep going GF)

If you are looking for a quick breakfast try eggs. I made mini muffin eggs this past weekend and have been eating them in the morning. I mixed egg whites, ricotta and a little cheese and baked them on 350 for about 15 minutes. I have two of them with a quarter of a sweet potato that I cooked over the weekend too. Holds me from 6am till about noon.

I have Protein every morning. (shake or in my coffee) Then about an hour later I have a little cream of wheat or oatmeal. Then I am good to go until lunch. The more protein I have in the morning, the less I eat all day.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
