Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Recommended Posts

You have to set the levels based on the band. Somewhere on this thread I posted a link that shows amounts. On low carb days, I try to stay under 30g per day.

Btw, just fyi, you don't have to be in ketosis to lose weight. I've lost over 200 pounds without being in ketosis and eating lots of healthy carbs.

I will look for that link, if you are eating 30 grams you would be in ketosis, or are you talking about another time?

I only carb cycle when on a plateau and when you're only on low carb every other day your body doesn't go into ketosis.

I normally don't count carbs at all, I just make sure to get enough Protein.< /p>

Well my system is all messed up from having 2 surgeries a month apart and most recently an MS relapse. I'm retaining a ridiculous amount of Water weight all in my legs, too.

So, I've decided I'm going to start carb cycling again for a couple weeks. It's worked twice for me before so I'm praying it does this time, too. I'll let y'all know!

Sorry to hear your not feeling good. Hope you feel better soon.

When you're up to it could i be a pain and if you have the time ask for an example of a typical menu of what you eat and how much on a low/high day only its a struggle for me with the band so not sure I'm doing it right xx

Many thanks xxx

I'll be honest, I struggle with low carb days. I never seem to get enough calories. High carb days are easy, I just eat "normal".

Today is a low carb day, here is what I'm eating:

breakfast- Slimfast low carb shake (20g protein)

lunch- salad with diced ham, shredded cheese, ranch dressing. 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese

dinner- 1 cup low fat chili mixed with 1tbsp cream cheese and sprinkled with shredded cheddar

This sends up about 900 calories and 34 net carbs. I may have another Protein Shake at some point today, too. Or a maybe a spoonful of Peanut Butter.< /p>

I know I said I was going to start this a couple weeks ago, but things happened and I wasn't able to start. So today I finally started. Low carb day for me. This is how it went:

Breakfast: Protein Shake

Snack: Pita chips and Hummus

Lunch: chicken salad

Dinner: Lean ground beef patty with low fat smoked gouda and 1/4 avocado

Total count for the day:

Calories: 846

Carbs: 38

Fat: 42

Protein: 84

So, I think I did pretty good. What do you guys think? Any advice/tips are appreciated. I'm so ready to break this plateau. I've been stuck at this weight for almost a month now. :(

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
