Post Op November Bansters

Recommended Posts

Ok my complaint of the day. I still haven't had a bowel movement.

Adding benefiber, Nurse told me to take a Ducalox (sp) suppository.

So I inserted on at 4:30. aroun 5:30 tried but it was clear, not the color you expect, but I have only been doing Clear liquids for the most part.

Anyway was not the relief I needed.

Get to try again at 9:30.

Still having pain in my left shoulder. I have only had around 5 hours asleep, but oddly I feel better than I did yesterday.

Had 12 oz of Water, with 1 scoop of musclemilk like vanilla, and mixed in Dannon vanillia greek yogart. Can't eat the yogart by itself as its to thick but if I Water it down with water and muscle milk helps me get in some fluids an switch up the taste and protien.

Hey folks! I was banded on November 1st. I guess I am one of the fortunate ones because my surgery was at 8:30am, and I was home by 1:30pm. I had the band plus plication performed. The first day, I was gassy. I didn't have much pain due to gas, but I sure did burp a lot! HAHA! After surgery, I actually went to Walmart and walked around with my family. My second day was a little more rough in that I started to feel my incisions. The burping continued. All in all, I felt fine. I got up and walked around the house, and started full liquids. That night, however, was quite rough. I had some bad acid reflux, but my surgeon had prescribed something for that prior to the surgery itself, so I was prepared. I only took my pain meds for 2 nights, and I was done.

To answer the Constipation question, I was put on Loratab elixir for pain. A side effect of Loratab is constipation. I didn't have a BM for 3 days, and started to get alarmed. My surgeon also suggested Milk of Magnesia for post-op. I took 2 tbs. and then I was fine. As soon as I stopped the pain meds, I went back to a more regular trip to the potty.

I am 8 days post-op now, and I feel like I haven't had anything done it all. That's how GREAT I feel! I can walk, drive, clean house, just about anything. My surgeon is keeping me out for 2 weeks due to the plication, and my job is physically demanding. Each day that comes is a step easier. I can actually lay flat in a bed now! That was an amazing accomplishment!

I am still on full liquids. I find it interesting in how many differences of opinion various surgeons have. My diet is progressive based on 2 week increments. I will finish my full liquid phase next Thursday, then go to Purees for 2 weeks, softs for 2 weeks, then solids for 2 weeks, and then, hopefully, no restriction. So, 6 weeks total before going back to a normal eating pattern. I don't know about those whom have been banded a while, but I am SOOO looking forward to my next phase. Soup is getting VERY old! After this, I believe I may never eat a bowl of Soup, on purpose, again! I just want yogurt or cottage cheese (I've already asked, and they told me no, and not to graduate myself, let them do that)! They are the pros though, and I trust them. There has to be a reason.

Congrats November losers! :) I'm down 33lbs since October 21st at the start of my liquid diet. More to come I am sure! :)

9:30 fever spiked to 102.7 all of the sudden. Called the Doc Going to the emergency room to run some tests. I think I may be dehydrated.

Weird experience. Got a real high fever took some children tylenol, while this was happening I knoticed all my extremeties started swelling up. Once the fever broke it all just started draining out of me. Like someone was ringing out a rag.

Looks like I'm low in potassium. As they tried to give me honking horse pills. I just was like there is no way. So now I have to figure out how to get in some potassium.

Big news is I have small pneumonia . yeah

Good to hear that you are back from the hospital. Had you been taking Vitamins? Has your doctor said what you can take to get potassium? I know it has been tough for you but hang in there. It will get better!!

Hello! I'm an October bandster. Just wanted to pop in and tell you all that you are doing great. Hang in there because it gets easier. I was one that had it pretty easy.

Constipation from anesthesia fixed with suppository.

Left shoulder pain is from tube hitting nerve on diaphragm. Heating pads help. Call dr for gelcap Advil if needed.

All the health problems you are facing along with surgery is just an indicator how desperately your body needed this lifeline.

Stay positive! It is well worth it. I don't joke around with foods for my own satisfaction. During each food phase I only ate high quality foods. Cooked veggies and meats, puréed or mushed.

Even if you feel great your body is healing so be careful not to overdo it from excitement.

I'm 5 weeks post op and I'm down 32.5 lbs with another 60 to go.

Well wishes to you all.

Hi! When you say "Left shoulder pain is from tube hitting nerve on diaphragm. Heating pads help. Call dr for gelcap Advil if needed". Does this mean that the shoulder pain will be resolved once band is filled or will some pain be permanent?

I ask because my pain is pretty strong at times and I cannot imagine living with this pain.

It's not permanent. But good god is it ever painful! With some getting a fill helps. With others it's so bad they've had it removed.( not the norm though). Mine stopped hurting before my first fill

Your shoulder pain is probably from gas.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
