Lap Band Surgery On The 29Th...in Terrible Pain!!

Recommended Posts

I had lap band surgery on the 29th, at 11am. Since the surgery,I have been in terrible pain. I can't sit down by myself, or get up. The pain Is so bad that no pain medicine makes it feel any better. I stayed overnight at the hospital and was on morphine and Percs all day and night. None of it helped. Today is day three, pain has not subsided, haven't been able to drink hardly anything because I just feel so sick and so much pain. I'm not able to sleep on my bed because I can't lay flat, can only sleep sitting half way up on my back. I can't get on couch because then its so painful getting pulled up off it when I need to get up.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm so confused how so many people on here said lap band surgery was so easy and almost pain free. I read that people were up and about the next day. Am I the only one that is in so much pain three days post op!?? I was not prepared to be crippled like this!!!

usally it gas and the air they put in durning surgery. Gas x and a heating pad did the most good for me pain meds wont help gas. also a laxative will get the gas and air out so get that also. this will get better soon but help it a long .line dancing

Have you tried calling your doc and telling them what you're going thru? Something doesn't sound right..... I didn't really experience much pain, was home the same day and only had hyrocodone for pain for a few days. If you're having that much pain and can't keep anything down I think I would call the doc and ask/tell them to do an xray/barium swallow to check the band. Did they do a barium swallow right after you had your surgery? my doc does one to make sure everything is going down ok.

No. They didn't do X-rays or barium swallow....the doctor said my pain was normal. He said everything went fine! I've told them since right after surgery that I was in so much pain..I thought it would have subsided by now but it still feels exactly the same since the surgery.

Everyone has a different threshold to pain. Have you ever had surgery before? If not, this could likely be the most pain you've ever experienced and it's scary. The gas pain to me was worse than the incision and abdominal pain. Keep taking your pain meds and using a heating pad and call your doctor. He's the only one that can tell you whether what you're experiencing is abnormal and if you need to come back in. If you can't even keep down Water, it's obvious you need to go back to the hospital so you don't dehydrate.

Is the pain in your chest and shoulder area? If so, that's the gas and it can last for a week or so, but it does get better. Unfortunately there's not much else that can be done for it other than pain meds and heating pad.

if it is hurting ((this bad)) as you are writing

please call your doctor

they can advise you or offer you a different pain med perhaps..(some of us have more pain tolerance then others). since he is your doctor, i am sure he would not want you to suffer so.

I am expecting to feel like I did after having my gallbadder removed. The doctor told me that was a good comparison.

All my pain is in my stomache area....did anyone take gas x right after? Maybe it's gas? Also, did people have trouble going to the bathroom? Are we able to take something to help with bathroom?

You need to walk around no matter how much it hurts. It your doctor is telling you this is normal then you have to get moving. Yes you can take gas x and if you just had surgery don't worry about going to the bathroom you havent eaten anything. I just think you have no tolerance for pain and that it will get better. You're only 2 days post op. But you have to get moving pain or not.

I had mine done yesterday and know exactly how you feel!!! I have had 4 csections and robot hysterectomy and nothing compares to this. I have found that while making my walking laps around the house I would stop and have my husband rub my back up and down and that really helps!!! I have graduated from the lazy boy to the couch but my bed last night was not even an option!! Good luck, hope we feel better!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
