I Don't Want To Tell Anyone I'm Considering Lapband

Recommended Posts

I have 2 friends to this day lie about gastric bypass being done . All of a sudden they lost all this weight . My one friend said she had her gall bladder out. I felt betrayed because we always struggled being fat together. I was banded and when I start losing weight I'm going to say I had my gall bladder out just like you!

That made me laugh:) bet the look will be priceless.

Hi everyone, Can someone please help me, im fairly new to this site.

I am 24 years old, have had my Gallbladder removed last year and diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome). Ever simce my gallbladder surgery i have gained a lot of weight. I have always been on the heavier side but not as much. Currently i am 220 pounds and my height is 5'1. I have doctors appointment on the 5th for a consultation for the lap band. Can someone please give me advise? I really want to do this my husband is supporting me 100%. Im just afraid because i have heard a lot of negative things about the band.

Thank you in advance

welcome to the forum... You may want to start a thread so people see your question ....it may get lost in this long thread...just a suggestion.

But in any case I would do your research, read everything possible about the band and consult with your medical team to decide if it's a good option for you.

I too am just starting off in the lap band journey and I am only going to be telling close family maybe a couple friends and thats only once I get my insurance approval... they don't need to know before that. It is extremely difficult so far and I haven't even had my first doctors appointment yet! I think eventually I will tell more people after I have done it but until that time it is just my secret :)

I felt the same way. I was embarrassed and scared of failure. However, it's important to have support from those around you. Thankfully for me, my family and friends were just as excited. I had my surgery 9 days ago and would not want to continue on this journey alone.

Good luck with the choice that is right for you.

I'm scheduled for surgery 12/31 and I have only told 2 people - my husband and one person that I know who had gastric bypass. I didn't even want to tell her, but when she asked me why I didn't have surgery, I spilled the Beans. Part of me is afraid of failure and the other part is just shame. I lost a lot of weight before (165 lbs) only to gain most of it back and I feel like a huge failure. Getting lapband surgery also makes me feel like a failure. I don't think anyone else that has WLS is a failure, just me. I was so proud that I had lost weight before without surgery or medication, but here I am again. I really just want to get the weight off before everyone knows I gained it back. Right now I'm trying to not beat myself up over it and stay focused because the most important thing is for me to take care of myself and do what I need to be happy. My husband is supportive but he also wonders why I just don't do it without such drastic measures. Hah! If I could, I would have done it! Right now the thing keeping me on my pre-op diet is the fact that my surgery is scheduled. Sure if I could just stay on 2 Protein Shakes a day and 1 meal of lean Protein and veg without surgery I would. However, if I wasn't committed to my surgery I would probably have a burger or some pizza right now! I think it's time to put all of those old stigmas and beliefs about overweight people on the shelf and get down to business!

I feel that way I had my lap band done on the 26 of nov and my husband has made it a point to tell everyone in the county including his co workers after I told him I didn't want everyone to know. He gets his band done December 27 and he has told everyone about his which is fine if he wants them to know his business but just notice. How do I make him understand my feelings

I've been banded 2yrs ago today & I still have kept mine private. Less than 7people know & that's of course a very personal private choice. I understand where you are coming from. #banded12/22/10

I told my mom, dad and a few people I trusted and begged their discretion in letting me share my experience in my own time and way.

You guys crack me up! I'm an office manager for a family practice and want to take the bear minimum off work. I have been trying to think of something that 1- would require that amount of time off and 2- would never not be able to have done again. ( like gallbladder- still have mine and if I say I'm having it removed and then something happens and I really do have to have it removed) I'm hoping to get mine the Wednesday before Memorial Day so I will have an extra day off in there. Still doing my 6 months required by insurance:(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
