Should I Do This???

Recommended Posts

I know this might seem really weird but I had a dream and in it I was thinking about getting weightloss surgery. So when I woke up I really decided to think about it for real. Never really thought of it as an option. I have been overweight most of my life and not until the last 4 years have I had any health problems. I have high blood pressure and diabetes. I can't seem to get the diabetes under control. I have tried several types of diets over the years,it works for awhile. I love to eat-and it seems to be getting worse not better. I want to do this but then I have my husband say its not the answer. Dieting is. Saturday I go to the first seminar, so maybe it will help??

My husband was the same way..."not dieting right, not exercising right, more output (calories burned) and less input (calories in)".....easy for him to say, he's NEVER struggled with being overweight and even at age 40, has an incredible metabolism & an awesome body. HOWEVER, I made the decision to do it, did not ask his permission, but informed him I was doing it.....FOR ME, because I needed it! For my health, physically and mentally.

AND I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!! And he is too. Now that he has seen it works, he is supportive and my biggest fan; every Tuesday (my weigh in day) he asks how much I've lost and tells me how proud he is! Like everyone else, he went online and read all the horror stories, not so many success stories. As long as you research your doctor and trust him, you have nothing to lose....EXCEPT ALL THAT UNHEALTHY WEIGHT!!!!

He will respect, once he learns the truth about the band, that the band is a tool and does not do it for you. It is NOT the easy way out! You HAVE TO do your part. You have to be willing to eat right, listen to your body, make the necessary changes to your habits, and exercise. The band helps you eat less and not be hungry, thus, taking in MUCH fewer calories. The changes are easy to adjust to when you see the scale moving in the right direction. That was always my big problem....dieting & exercising, being super strict and losing only 5 pounds in 3 months.....VERY discouraging!!! HOWEVER, using the band as your greatest tool, you will see the pounds coming off, which is SUPER encouraging and will help keep you going in the right direction. With the band you can still love to eat, you don't have to deprive yourself, you just eat LESS....one cookie instead of the whole box, half a sandwich instead of 2, 1/2 cheeseburger instead of 2, one brownie instead of half the batch, etc....again, this will be easy to do when you see it working!!!

Getting the band a year ago (Nov 3, 2011) was the third best day of my life...only behind marrying the love of my life and the birth of my children. I LOVE MY BAND!!! :D I have lost 60 pounds and I'm still losing! I would recommend the lap band to ANYONE who is willing to make the changes necessary and willing to exercise and wants to make life changes for a healthier happier life!!!! I am so much happier and healthier than I was at this time last year, thanks to my band!

if you want to get well by losing weight, def go to this seminar to see

what it is all about. listen to what they say. ask questions. look and seek

out those who are successful. if you really (want) to lose weight and do something about it, its a good thing.

its not easy

its not a miracle overnight cure all

there is good and bad

but if can work if you help it.

the band will help you lose weight by eating less (esp when fills start)

but its up to you to eat smart and eat better foods than ez slider/high fat/high calorie foods.

you can do this.

the seminar made me realize i can do this if i want too.

all the best to you :)

The fact that you dreamed about it shows that it's been on your mind.

Go to the seminar. And take your husband with you, if possible. The more your husband learns about the lapband, the better your chances are that he will be supportive, if you decide to go for it.

Today is my fourth bandiversary! I had my surgery on October 23, 2008, and it truly let me change my life. I don't regret my decision for a second. I say -- if you are willing to commit to working with the band and to exercising once your doctor OKs it, go for it. It's an incredible tool.

Feel free to check out my blog -- I put a special 4th bandiversary post up there, with before/after photos and a link to the pro/con list I made when I was just where you are now -- pre-op, trying to decide if this was the right thing for me. Turns out the pros were all real and the cons I was worried about were not that big of a deal.

Best wishes for your success! If you do the surgery, be sure to take your measurements and a bunch of "before" pics now -- you will definitely want them later on.

Best,

Catherine

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
