I'm having my band placed Wednesday December 26. Been a bit cranky I think it's my nerves. Only a few people know I'm having it done. Not to proud that I failed myself. But looking forward to shedding this extra person I've been carrying for the past 12 years.

Welcome Patty

I felt the same way. I was embarrassed to walk into the surgery center. Until I got home and that's when the reality set in.

I had to do something. I stopped myself before I gained another 100 lbs.

Be proud of yourself. We are all here together.

I finally found something that helps me with my nausea. I know I only tried it one time ( last night) but for the first time since surgery ( 10 days ago ) I had relief.

I had nothing to eat or basically drink lol after 7 pm.

I had a rough weekend, followed by a NSV. So, I thought I'd share. In terms of roughness I am struggling a little with boundaries regarding the mushies phase of the diet. I probably ate something that were pushing it in terms of nutritional value. I chewed them pretty thoroughly 25-30 times a bite, but I knew they were things I shouldn't be eating yet or at all and still did. On the whole did I do myself any major harm in what I did? Probably not. Although it didn't feel great and although it wasn't a stuck food episode, my band definitely told me "hey! stop that! you can't eat like that!" I didn't eat a huge amount or really even stuff my face like I might have done in the past. My only real regret is that I should be more careful right now because I am healing still. And I don't want to strech my pouch or do anything that could cause me harm or affect my longterm success.

My NSV is a nice one. I woke up this morning and had forgotten to put in a wash last night. So, I thought I'd check my closet for old clothes that might fit now. I grabbed a pair of pants that I haven't worn for almost 10 years. They fit! I ironed them and put them on, confirming that I have lost 4 inches off my waist and although I am not yet in my 40's.....my pant size is. That's a race I thought I would lose. I'm getting closer to being able to once again walk into a regular store and buy clothing. I haven't been able to do that in years.

What is NSV? Congrats on getting into old jeans! That is one of the perks. You learned a valuable lesson, no matter what your brain is screaming we ignore it and do it (eating something) hating ourselves. I'll bet you will wait and think next time. You will do great... Enjoy And Merry Christmas.

How are u feeling???

I'm sore today, I have a cramp in my side & my left shoulder is starting to hurt. I went for a walk - that just made me more thirsty. I can't get enough Water...and I'm afraid to drink too fast, for fear I'll stretch out my pouch.

As I understand it an NSV is a non-scale victory. Things like getting a "hey you look great!" from a co-worker or simply fitting into clothes from years gone by.

So important to keep track. Combination of several factors but thank you for posting so all the newbies can be prepared.

Omg I haven't pooped in a week!! I'm scared now! How did you know this happened?!?! My doc said no laxitives cuz it would dehydrate me!!

My doc said Miralax is okay to use because it's gentle and doesn't have harsh side effects...so that's what I use and I'm doing good...best wishes!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
