I have read considerably on both and honestly haven't been able to find major, notable differences.

I honestly think at the end of the day, it's going to come down the surgeon's relationship with each company and their own personal preference.

My surgeon actually uses both brands of band. He leaves it up to the patient to decide.

I asked him if there was any difference between them and he told me, the Lapband has a little restriction from the start than Realize. That was the one I choose, we'll see.

I have a Realize band, and felt some degree of restriction from Day 1...and I was 14 weeks post op before having my first fill.

Surgeon preference and one's individual anatomy I believe are the influences which drive the decision about which one is used...along with the patient, if they are given a choice.

I have the realize band....and took a long time to feel restriction...

Same here Realize and took it long time to reach the zone. My fill history is in my signature. My doctor likes Realize and claims it forms better to the stomach. I truly believe it is just his preference.

Here is a side by side comparison http://www.wlshelp.com/lap-band-vs-realize-band.html
