Second Guessing My Decision....normal?

Recommended Posts

I have been very excited since finally making the decision to get the Lapband. Now, I will be finding out my surgery date(hopefully this week) and all of sudden; I'm getting nervous. Doubts are starting to creep up and I'm 2nd guessing my decision. I know its probably just nerves. I don't want to go all thru all of this just to fail so I'm having some anxiety.

Is this normal to "all of sudden" get scared about this? Has anyone else felt like this? Help!!!

I hope it's normal, I'm getting a bit nervous about it as well. But I have to ask myself, what will I do if I don't get this surgery? Do I want to be obese for the rest of my life or do I want to start a new life in a healtheir body? If the day after your surgery you adopt the attitude of, failure isn't an option, and live by that, you won't fail! :)

Quite honestly, I'd worry if you weren't nervous and questioning your decision. It's a BIG decision and not one to enter into lightly. The fact you are questioning it means you're giving it the thought it deserves.

And yes, I went through the same thing. I can remember even sitting waiting for them to come take me into surgery, thinking "I can back out right now, omg, why am I here? I should just leave!" Obviously I went through with it (and couldn't be more thrilled with my results so far) but I definitely a couple moments of sheer panic.

I'm feeling the same way, second guessing myself...but when I do, I look in the mirror and then I remembered why I wanted to do this in the first place...and reading others success as well as their struggles on this site, is very encouraging as well....so keep focused on the prize at the end...being healthier and ofcourse sexy lol....hope that helped!!!

I'm post op 4 days. Day 1 -2 I regretted it big time mostly because of all the pain I was in .... The regret is still subsiding but I still am wondering if all this pain is worth it

I, too, had second thoughts. I thought I was taking the easy way out. Then I thought, if I could loose 14 lbs. in 10 days of pre-op diet, why couldn't I loose the rest without the surgery? Well, I thought about it some more and realized I never stick to a diet for very long....end up cheating then saying, oh, forget it. I knew I needed more motivation and some drastic changes. So far, so good. I am so glad I went through with the surgery. It's tough the first few days, but gets easier quickly. This is the best thing I've done for myself in ages!

Perfectly normal - surgery is scary. Any kind of surgery is scary. Yes it is a big step but if you have done your research then I am sure you have made the decision that is right for you. It won't be long and you will be looking back thinking " what was i so scared of, I wish i'd done this sooner".

I'm so happy to have found this thread. I am so scared, I even canceled my last nutrition appt via email. Thankfully they didn't cancel it in hopes that I might change my mind. I have to stop reading horror stories and focus on why I am doing this. It helps to have encouragement and to read positive stories.

Hello,

I was not nervous! I was nervous about the surgery and the pain that can come with it. I was so "just ready" to have it done and lose weight that I could not wait. I had some pain but was got super sick from the anesthisia. I still eat some of the things I did. I just don't eat in between meals. If I do I have fruit! I did have a small reece's Peanut Butter cut the other day. No I didn't feel bad for eating it. I have lost 22 lbs since my surgery on 8/20/12. I now eat more healthier foods, I make better choices, but I still treat myself once in awhile to those bite size candies. Actually that is the first candy bite I have had in two months. Not bad, when that was something I would eat daily! I had a great friend that had the lap band done in 08' She lost a 140 lbs in 14mths and has kept it off and looks great. If she can do it I can, and I am so excited!

When I was going to have the surgery, I hardly told anyone. My husband, three of my friends and 3 co workers. Then after surgery I told everyone at work and my whole family. I didn't want to hear what anyone else had to say, good or bad. I was doing this for myself. I knew for me I was doing the right thing. And I am glad I did it! Good luck to you. Make the choice for you and no one else!

I'm on this same roller coaster ride right now! I start my liquid diet tomorrow, and my surgery is scheduled for September 24th. Sometimes I can't wait to start life with my band and plication. Other times, I think of all the problems that could happen, and I think I'm crazy to do this.

But I'm not getting off this roller coaster till it comes back into the station...or in this case, the surgery recovery room!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
