Port Pain

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded on 8/17 and am still having a lot of pain where my port is placed. Is this normal??????

That is normal (unless it is inflamed, red, swollen, etc. or extremely painful). It is the largest incision with the most stitching/cutting, etc. to place the port. My surgeon told me that one would be sore the longest.

For me, it was pretty sore up until about 5 weeks. However, if anything seems abnormal, definitely contact your surgeon's office and let them guide you.

I was also banded on 8/17, and every once in a while I feel what I would call discomfort, not pain. Sometimes when I bend forwardd I get like a twitch or something, and I wonder if I "broke" something. Like A new dawn said above, if you feel it's really painful, then by all means, call your Dr. It can't hurt to see what he thinks... hang in there

They sew your port into muscle. .. this takes a very long time to heal.

3years out I still feel twinges from time to time and a pulling feeling if I over extend that area.

Thank you for replying. I feel everything was not explained enough to me at the surgeon's office. It's not a constant pain, but sitting makes it worse and of course if I roll onto the area while falling asleep. I appreciate the replies:)

What does it mean when it is red and inflamed and hurting? I was banded in June 2011. And I've been hurting for a couple of weeks. I have. Doctors appointment tomorrow. I was just curious what I would be looking at when I went to doctor??

By red, inflamed and hurting, I meant looking or feeling like it may be infected. It would be swollen, sore, red, etc. Mine was that way and it was an issue w/ the stitches (thankfully, no infection and was easily fixed).

It's been almost 3 yrs for me and I stiil occasionally feel discomfort where my port is. Usually it's just after a fill or unfill, but last nite, it felt bruised. Haven't had a fill in months. I think I might have slept on it wrong the nite before.

Good luck!

Marci

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
