What Is The Average Weight Loss Post Op?

Recommended Posts

I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I have lost 8 lbs since surgery. What's the normal range? I am on full liquids for the first 4 weeks then add mushies after that. I had the plication with the band so I'm not hungry. But I haven't lost a pound since last week. I know that I've lost some inches though. Any thoughts??

your still healing, i really wouldnt worry about losing weight for a short while. tmf would

say not for 4 to 6 weeks and i happen to agree.

just focus on the inches lost rather then the numbers on a scale.

you sound as if you are doing so well. keep positive thoughts only.

Thanks carolinagirl. My surgeon didn't say whether I did ok or not when I went for my post op last Thursday. He's so quiet it's hard to get him to say much unless I ask loads of questions. I have been steadily losing inches. My clothes are getting too big but I don't want to shop yet. I want to put it off as long as I can. I'm down a total of 20 lbs. since I started the pre-op diet.

sounds like success to me. why ruin it by getting on a scale to read fickle numbers that change all day long??? LOL you promise to just keep asking alot of questions no matter what

As difficult as it is, try not to compare your weight loss to others, even those with the band. We are all different and we all have different starting points which means that our weight loss will be different. the important thing is to follow your doctor's guidelines.

how soon could one go back to work after having the lapband done? I am a dental assistant and not sure how much time to ask for when the time comes .

My dr Said 1-2 lbs a week also. It is faster in the beginning, but mine has slowed. Still losing a lb a week though. At least in not gaining and my body is changing. I am exercising so I am getting more firm and going down in sizes even if the scale isn't moving much.

I took off of work a week. Let your body rest, get your walking in, and be safe.

Hi chenie69

I took 2 weeks off, but I feel after a week I was good to go. I guess it depends on how strenuous your job is. I work in an office setting, sitting at a desk, sl 1 week would have been fine. But get rest! You will be tired for a bit!! Good luck!!

I could have written your post. I'm 16 days post op and feel like I have lost inches but the scale is slow to budge. I've lost about 9 post op.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
