Pre-Op And I Am A Hungry, Hungry Hippo!

Wah!

I've been following my surgeon's suggested pre-op diet (2 Protein shakes and a Lean Cuisine a day) and I am hungry!

They also suggest taking a Metamucil capsule twice a day to stave off hunger pangs -- anyone done this? Doesn't it make you -- well -- poop a lot?

Just wanted to whine for a minute. I'm done now. :P

Ive was told to avoid Bananas (even though I love them in shakes normally) because they are really high in sugar (which turns into carbs= bad). What I did was get the cut up party platter fruit trays

  • I'm on my third day pre-op, and I was told I can only drink the meal replacements 3 times a day and water. Is everyone's pre-op different because I see people posting they are allowed more. Nonetheles

My worst part is work. I am ok at home because i can get away from my kids and husband while they are eating but at work they just eat all around me and it kills me but.. what does kill you always makes you stronger!

I'm also 8/27! My Dr. only has one pre-op option - 2 shakes and a soup (any kind). At the support group last night, it was mentioned that those of us in preop could add fruit and such to our shakes as long as we mixed it up smoothy-like. I am going to email the nutritionist tomorrow and verify before I do it, but I can see how adding a banana or something might be a bit more filling and add some flavor.

I have been told you can add fruit but to NOT add bananas(my favorite) because they have too much natural sugar in them.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one hungry, some days are ok but then there are the others that are terrible! Yesterday was a bad day! I was so hungry all day long, but I made it through, only two more days to go! Surgery on Monday!

Me too. STARVING and irritable. I start clears tomorrow and have surgery on Friday' date=' 8/10. Nervous!

What does it mean when you say "clears"????

I ate grilled chicken and veggies for every meal and had green tea and lots of chicken broth when I was actually hungry. I did not eat little amounts (maybe this isn't the best advice) but so far I've survived. I did one week preop diet LIKE THIS and I lost 7 pounds. I think it was more the type of food I was putting in me not the amount. (NOW ITS ALL ABOUT THE AMOUNT)

I am so hungry!!!! It's only the end of day 2 and I keep thinking like how do I have 16 more days of this and how will I get through it. I have my preop with my surgeon Monday. I hope they tell me I can have broth or something.

Clear liquids are chicken broths, liquid hellos. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE CLEAR COLORED lol

Stay strong everyone drink water when hunger hits. Don't cheat. I did once and I feel terrible for it.

What I did was get the cut up party platter fruit trays since I can eat up to 1 cup of fruit a day. I have the french vanilla EAS protien shake and I threw in a couple chunks of pinapple and ice in the blender this morning for Breakfast and it was really yummy.

My surgeon dosen't require you to lose weight before your surgery, just to do a 10 day pre-op diet that will shrink your liver so it's easier to get to your stomach. It's liquid only like most and very specific as to what protein shakes you can have. I can also have Sugarfree/Fatfree popsicles and jello. My surgery is on Sept. 11th and I guess I will start on the 1st of September. I already know it's going to be tough, but I can do it for 10 days to finally have my surgery.........

I'm not "there" yet, but I don't look forward to tht diet! However, I do look forward to the results of that diet, my lapband. Perhaps trying to keep your focus on the outcome will help? Hope so.

I know what you mean..I am on day three of my liquid diet and I get 3 protein shakes and I can have chicken and beef broth and then crystal light and water to drink..I am getting the shakes down but ugh I sure don't like them..I don't feel major hungry but just want something good to eat Lol...How many days have you been on the liquid diet? My surgery is scheduled for August 24th and I am counting down the days..I am ready to be done with this liquid diet Lol... I will be happy to move on to Jello and Yougurt..I wish you luck with your diet and your surgery!!! Keep up the good work you can do it :) Take care !!!

the pre and post op diets are the hardest

but it is mental

and think of it this way, its just for a little while to go

without food.......think of the benefits..a new banded you.

stay focused and get on with it.

each day you are closer

all the best.....you got this if you want it :)

my preop diet seems like a walk in the park compared to the 2 week liquid diets everyone talks about

My doc just said i should be on atkins for 2 weeks before surgery' date=' does that make sense? (is it possible he made a mistake? or that i misunderstood his orders?!)[/quote']

I was on atkins for two weeks also. It's not a mistake. I had surgery on the 7th and it went great! My liver shrunk perfectly.
