Hey, Leener! Glad you came through OK. I'm so sorry you went through all that. I had a difficult time coming out of anesthesia also. I don't know how you got up by 4 to get out of there. I stayed the night - I couldn't even get up and start walking around until after 10 pm and my surgery was at 7 am.

My doc said to keep pills at/under the size of a #2 pencil. Hope that helps. Oh, and drink a full glass of Water after taking pills to make sure it goes into your lower stomach. (Just take it slow) And walk as much as possible especially with coughing so much - it will help to prevent pneumonia.

Each day gets a little better, but realistically it took me a couple of weeks to feel "much better". I hope it's sooner for you.

Good luck and my prayers are with you,

Hi Leener ~ I sure hope your feeling better and your actual fever is down. You are an inspiration to a pre-bander!! :clap2: Thank you for sharing the specifics b/c I added questions to my list. My blood ran warm when I read you were awake when they strapped you in. That would put me into a panic attack for sure, even though I don't have them.

You are indeed very brave as others have already stated. So glad to hear you did talk to God b4 surgery....it's only natural, especially during a time like that. Perhaps that is something that could help you in the furture if you do have another panic attack. He has promised to never forsake us....don't ever forget that!!

~mini_me~ Congratulations to you as well!! I am so excited for you. You are in good hands here at LBT. Other than your surgeon, there's no better place for advice. Take care of yourself!!

I'm sending you both flowers and love & here's to a speedy recovery!!

:) :) :) :) :) :) :lovechoc:

Congratulations! Every day will get a little easier; just don't ask too much of yourself during this first banded week. Welcome to Bandland!

Just to update y'all, I'm moving about much easier and with far less pain. I took off the adhesive and now I'm just covered by the steri-strips. The incisions the surgeon made are so small! Much smaller than when I had my gallbladder out. (Go Dr. Abkin!) Exept for the port/band incision. That one is bigger.

I am having some diarrhea, but they say that is normal.

Good news is my fasting glucose was normal before surgery, so I am NOT diabetic. Part of the reason I had this done was to avoid that. My grandparents and my mom and dad have it.

I am also having an intermittent spasm of pain under my breastbone, in the center. It comes and goes in seconds.

Glad to hear you're doing well! Wonderful news about your spiritual relationship, also. Just remember God is there is good times as well as those scary ones. :)

Keep moving.. walk, walk, walk.. sip, sip, sip..

hey bups!

i am having the same crazy "HELLO" pain at my breastbone area. my port is here, and the nurse said it is just my body becoming more aware of its presents.

SOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOOOOooooo glad you are not diabetic. that really worried me!

I have all the same side affects as you(shh dont tell noone, i have 3 brothers who would tease me to the point of insanity, following me to the bathroom everytime i went)

my incisions sound like yours, i have 4 that are a little bigger than the diameter of an erasor on a pencil, the larger one where the port is, is about, maybe a little smaller that the diameter of a quarter. i am very pleased. i too, still have the strips, and man do they itch!!!!

Have you notice any weight coming off yet...i know it is all Fluid right now, but who cares right, i love to see the scales moving!!

Hey Mini!

Hey lady, thanks for sharing your concern and relief about the diabetes. A collective sigh of relief withthat one!

I just had some cream of butternut squash Soup I got at Trader Joes and it was like heaven.

Like you mentioned to me, I feel so full too, even on liquids and I do hope I'm not stretching the pouch. Alexra said no, but the Inamed brochure says yes...so..?? :)

Yup, lost 6 lbs as of yesterday. Which portents good things because losing 6 lbs and keeping it off was damn near impossible before. So YAY. Go us! :-D

hooray!! 6 lbs!! before we know it, we are going to be starting a thread congratulating ourselves on meeting our goals!! my pain is a bajillion percent better today. i was able to sleep on my side last night...thank goodness, i am a belly/side sleeper. i have asked around, and the standard answer seems to be two weeks before healing allows sleeping on my belly. have you done your measurements, etc, on the fitness chart? I really like doing that. i did my stats on sunday, then again yesterday. i know i need to limit myself to once a week or once every two weeks. i am just so anxious to record my results. it just hit me this morning that i am 99% percent sure that i will never weigh 207 again:clap2: . that is amazing to me.

makes me wanna dance...

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
