Dumb Question About The Elusive Egg...

Recommended Posts

I have a real dumb, embarassing question about hard boiled eggs. My husband is a chef/cook, and he does all of the cooking. Yea, I know, lucky me! :D He's helped me so much, but I do the baking, I hate cooking, he hates baking. Anyway, he's at work right now and I have that stupid question I spoke about (and to have lived this many years without knowing the right way to do it, *shame*)

How do you boil an egg? I mean, I know how, but they usually come out green (over boiling) and the shells stick to the egg (even after "shocking" the eggs in very cold Water, asap. I've heard about putting vinegar in the water?? Do you put the eggs in after the water boils, or before the boil?

Oh, don't laugh! I can bake and decorate the most beautiful all occassion cakes you ever saw! Just can't boil that damn egg!

help?

I typically put the eggs in a pan and cover with cold Water. Put a lid on the pan and turn on medium-high heat. Bring to a full boil, and let boil for 5 minutes. Then (without removing the lid) let sit in the hot Water for another 10 mins.

After the 10 mins is up, drain the hot water, and fill with cold water and ice. Let the eggs sit in that for about 15 mins to totally cool, then peel.

If the eggs are very fresh, they will need to sit in the hot water for an additional 10 mins before cooling or the shells will not peel off easily.

Put water and eggs in a suace pan and bring tona boil when it starts boiling let it boil for 5 mins. After the 5 mins i usually shock them and run cold water right into the pan til they are cooled off. I crack it and roll it agaisnt the inside of the sink and then start to peel it. If they are done they will peel just fine! Good luck

Okay, I just read an article in taste of home about this, LOL. Take eggs (and older eggs are easier to peel), cover with Water until just covered. Bring to a boil, then cover, take off the heat and leave for 12 minutes. Then rinse with cold water, and put in the fridge. This has really worked well, no over boiled eggs!

This works! I have about 50 chickens and fresh eggs are REALLY hard to peel. I add about 1/4 cup of Kosher salt to the water, bring eggs to boil for a few minutes, turn off heat and cover for about 15 minutes. Then I run cold water over them and add a few ice cubes to the water until they are cool. They peel great!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
