Hi there, I am a nurse practitioner looking for a lapband surgeon. I am going to Mexico and have narrowed it down to Kuri or Aceves. I have not found much info on Aceves but all that I have found is positive and his credentials are checking out beautifully. Any feedback would be welcome.

Happy Kuri patient here. Thumbs up on experience and skill for band placement. He's done lots of them, he and his team have it down-pat. That was comforting to me, plus he is a kind man.

Do you have your after-care lined up? Will you be returning to MX for fills and follow-up and problems, should you have any? Do you have a US band doc who can/will see you in a pinch? That's the biggest advice I have for you! Good luck!

Check my stats, my BMI is similar (from your other thread). It's been slow, but I love my band.

I chose Dr Kuri and have been very happy -everything was great, and that was even before the brand new, beautiful hospital, lab, and offices. He has 2 other Inamed-certified band surgeons with him, and they work together so your surgery time is very short, which is much safer. Renee

I am just another happy Kuri patient. I understand DeLarla has a Kuri-related complication. You might want to talk with her.

From what I understand, his record is incredibly good. There are so many Kuri patients here! His new hospital is gorgeous (I think I may have been the first band surgery there). He only uses Inamed bands which is VERY important if you want a US fill.

I haven't heard anything on Dr. Aceves, sorry.

Thanks so much for the feedback. This is a tough decision. I am moving to Alaska and already have a fill doctor set up. I really wish I could learn more about Aceves but Kuri certainly is popular on here. How do you do that ticker thing?

I chose Dr. Aceves and am very happy. I was treated great, the hospital tho small is cleaner than an US hospsital I've been in. The staff is more than willing to help when you need them. Dr. Aceves nurse, that stays with you the entire time of your surgery, speaks English very well.

Hi

I just came back from TJ. I was going to see Dr. Kuri, Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Huacuz.

Dr. Ortiz has a clinic tha operates in the "Edificio de la Vision", that means the vision center. Is a hospital for vision problems, I did not care about that so just drove by and did not even go in. Dr Huacuz has soem problems with clients and it was posted and because he is 3,000 dol cheaper than the others it was suspicions to me ( may taking some shorcuts ) to make his cost lower.

So went to see Dr. Kuri in the new Hospital Angeles that just opened 2 months ago!.

Hospital very clean with an EMERGENCY ROOM, a real hospital. So I talked to the doctor and I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT: APRIL 20!.

I will need to go the day before and stay in the hospital that night and then surgery next day, my partner can come with me and stay witrh me in my private room.

I am happy I make this decision and also happy for the honesty of Dr. Kuri when he told me that I have to work with my mind and know that I will have a pouch of half a cup to fill and nothing else.

Now I have to "prepare myself" for this new challange in my life...

I understand DeLarla has a Kuri-related complication. You might want to talk with her.

I knew about DeLarla's Kuri-related complication before I scheduled with Kuri, so I'll tell you what I thought. If I'm remembering correctly, Kuri did a port removal for DeLarla that didn't fix her infected port problem. I decided on Kuri beacuse he was placing my band, something I KNOW he's an expert at, and I wasn't seeing him as an infectious wound specialist. If he had been doing some type of infected port repair, maybe I'd be concerned? That was my thinking, anyway.

cibertalk, I'm glad you are happy with your decision. April 20th sounds like a GREAT day to be banded! You couldn't have gone wrong with Dr Ortiz, by the reports of many many happy Ortiz patients here, but having peace about your decision goes a long way! I'm excited for you! Congrats.

Hi there, I know 2 very good doctors named Dr. Cantu and Dr. Mansur, and their clinic is located in Reynosa, Mexico. Both doctors are bariatric surgeons. They´re being doing more than 5,000 lap-band procedures, since their training years, until now that both are doctors. I would recommend you best, Dr. Cantu and Dr. Mansur, from Reynosa, Mexico. His toll free number is 1 888 520 0924, or you can visit their web page www.advancedmedicine.com for more information. He offers the lap-band for $8,300 dlls, Mini Gastric Bypass for $12, 000 dlls. and the Gastric Bypass for $13,000 dlls, he might even give you a discount. And he also offers financing service, either you pay half the cost, and the rest you can get it financed, or may pay cash, or check.

On a trip home from seeing my daughter (and I was much thinner 4 years ago) I sat next to a man that probably weighed a good 375 lbs. I have to admit I was crowded, but would hate to see anyone have to buy two seats. They gave this man 2 seat belt extenders and it worked. The airline may work with you on this. At the time I wasn't real happy because my fast was crushed against the window a good bit of the time, but I also understood his circumstances and how much seating costs in the first place. I have no experience with a scooter, but because of my feet I always have a wheelchair waiting everywhere I have a stopover and at my destination. The airline does this free of charge if you ask. You probably would have to store the scooter underneath in an aircraft anyway, as I think it would be much too big for carry on and overhead storage. Were you actually planning on taking the scooter on the plane in the overhead storage? It seems impossible. Why not just order a wheelchair for your trip and store your scooter till you arrive at your destination. Airlines go out of their way to meet travelers wishes and needs. Good luck to you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
