michelle,

I had my surgery on Friday (July 18th 2003.) I was back at my desk Monday morning bright and early. I was a little uncomfortable throughout the day but I was glad I went back right away.

I had my surgery on Thursday and had to stay in the hospital an extra day due to nausea from the anesthesia, but was STILL back at work on Monday. A bit sore around the port site and a little tired, but generally pretty good. Everyone is different, tho. If you DO go back, just be sure to stay hydrated if you go outside much! My job requires me to be outside some, and with all the sweating, I had to be sure to sip, sip, sip all day.

I had my surgery on Thursday, and went back to work on Tuesday. I was so restricted for the first 4 or 5 days after surgery that I struggled to get fluids down. I could have gone back to work on Monday but, for purely selfish reasons, I decided to take another day off work

the good thing is that by xmas i will have earned more time and will be able to take off then when i am down ?50? pounds (my goal)

I own my own business but if I were working for someone else I think I would have taken a few days off.

I had surgery on a Wednesday, was back at home on Friday (went to Mexico), and I could have gone back to work that next day. But I have a ton of vacation time, so I took an additional week off. I wasn't too sore, I was mainly tired.

Surgery was Thursday, home Friday, Monday a holiday and went to work on Tuesday. I do have a home based business ( tax prep ) and I did 50 returns Sat, Sun and Mon.

Surgery on a Friday, I could have gone back on Monday but it was a holiday so I went back Tuesday and I was FINE. Worked 10-5 and had no pain but was a little more tired than usual that night.

In an ideal world, I would have taken two weeks off, hired a full time masseuse, no make that a studly masseur, and hired a spa chef to blend my Protein drinks for me. Maybe I'll do that when I get my plastic surgery in a few years :D

I work in a pretty high pressure position and having just been through the holiday season was pretty burned out. Told my friends it was a shame I needed to have surgery just to get some time off! I could have gone back to work in a couple days but I had 3 weeks of sick time saved up so I took all 3 weeks and it was wonderful! Two weeks to heal and 1 for me! Putzed around the house, took naps, read, went shopping and just generally rested and tried to understand what I had done and what my new eating habits were going to be. I went back to work feeling better then I had for a long time. I know it is not possible for everyone. At the info meeting, my dr told us 2 weeks was common but we were starting a whole new life so if we had the extra week- take it. Good advice I thought.

I had surgery on Tuesday and thought I would return tomorrow but am rethinking the decision. I think I will take one or two more days.

I had surgery on Wed and was back to desk job on Monday. But I wish I would have waited until Wed again. As far as full duty goes, I wish I would have waited for 6 weeks instead of 4. But I am a big baby on pain and my duty belt rubbed my scars.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
