Bummed About Weight Gain After Plastic Surgery

Recommended Posts

So two weeks ago I had brachioplasty, I had a substantial unfil per my lb doctors suggestion to decrease risk for aspiration. Prior to this I was super tight & hit 120 weight loss bringing me 14 lbs from my goal weight.

Immediatly after surgery I weighed myself & had a 13 lb weight gain. I know it was all Fluid. So I decided to have my husband hide my scale & just let myself focus on healing noy my weight. So 2 weeks later & I'm up 23 lbs!!!!! Ahhhh!!!!

I realize my eating has not been the greatest. I have indulged a bit to much. pizza, steak, bread... things I haven't ate in about 10 months.

I'm disappointed in myself:( I feel like a failure & that I haven't overcome my battle with food in the slightest. A combination of being able to eat anything & not being able to exercise has taken a hefty toll & quick!

So my plastic surgeon has cleared me for light exercise as long as I don't work up a heavy sweat, my incision in my armpit is gaping & needs resutured. Tonight I did go for a mile walk & tomorrow I'm checking my eating habits. Tracking my calories & staying away from fast food!

So I asked my husband tonight to unhide my scale...t hey refused & told me he doesn't want me obsessing over it. I'm kinda pissed @ him & am half tempted to go buy a new one!

I know how you feel.. I've been losing it gradually, as a few of my friends have had bands and lost weight really fast. They had alot of baggy skin, which I've tried to aviod. I went to the gym and eat decently.. I lost 22kg then had a back injury stopping me from going to the gym and I've whacked on 6 kg... and like you I'm really pissed at myself now. And it seems the more annoyed I get the more I eat...Vicious circle...!

Well, on the advice of my lap band surgeon I didn't unfill at all and I"m in trouble now - really ferocious heartburn and chest pain, I am living on 24 hour Zantac and Mylanta. I had a 0.2cc unfill yesterday (4cc band) which has made no difference at all, I'm really hoping I don't have to take ALL the Fluid out. I'm actually quite worried about my band - my port was moved and fiddled with and it makes you wonder.

No doubt about it, plastic surgery is a major disruption to the banded life. I've not gained significantly but am at the highest point of my general swing - the disruption to my exercise schedule's been the killer for me - and I"m STILL not fully up to speed at 9 weeks post Tummy Tuck. I haven't touched a barbell yet, I'm just not ready to do that, and my running is greatly reduced.

I think we have to focus on the benefits of what we've decided to undergo and realize that the weight effects can be tackled again later. Hang in there, you've lot it before and you will again.

i am worried this will be my outcome too, having so much surgery tomorrow to remove all this skin i know i am gonna whack on a load of Fluid weight, i tell myself i am prepared for putting on weight initially but i know i will just be so disappointed when i see those scales creeping up .. I have tried to prepare by making meals for the freezer and trying to stick to what i normally eat .. but since monday when i had a 1ml removed from my band i have eaten, what has felt like, double what i normally do, i have exercised it off but i am not going to be able to do that after my op tomorrow .. i am surprised how much i can eat with only 1 mls removed .. makes 7mls out of a 14 mls band .. how quick are u going to have the band fill again ?

I hope u both sort out the bumps in your recovery and hope that we can end this journey on a positive note where we all get the results we want :)

ill post some pics after i get done tomorrow .. i will be in intensive care for a day or so because of the amount of surgery i am having so will be posting next week sometime probably.. ill try and let people know i am at least alive :)

Good for your husband - don't go and buy another one. If you continue to step on it and see it at a higher number than you want you will just get depressed. Concentrate on eating right, journal, and do as much as you can physically. Give yourself at least a week or maybe two before stepping on a scale.< /p>

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I've been focusing real hard on my food... logging everything in My fitness pal. Once it cools off here in an hr or so I'm going for a mile walk around the park. My arms swell so bad with walking that that's about all I can do. My doctor took out 1.5 mls prior to surgery and I plan on having him put in 1 ml when I go in on June 5th. I was super super tight before and don't want to go back to that place. Good luck Cazzy on your surgery!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
