I read "reasons why you want the surgery" thread and someone had thoughts of being scared of having it done because of not being able to lie down to sleep afterwards. Has anyone experienced this? Or did I misread this. Freaking out.

I had no hard time lying down. First few weeks it slept with pillows around to make sleeping comfortable. Yes you are sore, have aches and pains, but it is to be expected. I was banded in April of this year. I am feeling great and full of energy!!

If you sleep on your stomach you will probably not be able to at first and if you sleep on your side you will probably be more comfortable with a pillow next to your stomach but generally there is no reason not to be able to lie down.

Have no Idea what that may mean...I sleep wherever, however I want. As a mattter of fact, I sleep better now than I have in a long tome...must have soomething to do with my air passages and breathing...not to mention my body as a whole is significantly smaller.

Only negative is you get cold easier and need an extra blanket...not much of the fat insulation as before. Maybe I'll save on air conditioning bills this summer!!!

I was banded May 2nd and have had no issues sleeping on my side or stomach. It was sore at first but I'm one week post op and no issues.

The first week or so it may be hard to sleep flat but other than that you have nothing to worry about, I promise!!

No problems. Once healed I had no trouble as a stomach sleeper.

I was not able to sleep on my stomach the first week or so after surgery due to the swelling but after that no problems and I actually sleep better now.

***Beware if you have pets you should sleep with a pillow over your stomach for a couple of weeks or until fully healed. I learned that one the hard way with one of our Cats. Not a big deal if your expecting the cat to jump but if you're sleeping and not expecting it could be a jolting experience.

I was banded April 3rd. The first week I slept with a pillow on my tummy on my side...just in case my hubby bumped me or our pug jumped on me by accident. Plus i was still sore from the surgery.

However I am a tummy sleeper and have been sleeping on my tummy ever since. I don't have any issues with it. Everything is secure inside you and it's not going anywhere regardless of how you sleep. No worries.

I slept on my stomach the second day after surgery and have been sleeping soundly like that ever since. As mentioned earlier, if you have animals, watch out. I have a cat that likes to lay on my stomach when I'm reading in bed and I always keep my hand over my port until she settles in. Cat foot directly on the port is still uncomfortable three+ months post surgery.

I couldn't lay flat for the first four nights after surgery (I slept in a recliner - fitfully). After that, I returned to my bed and couldn't lay on my left side for a couple nights. But seven days after surgery I was sleeping like always, no discomfort at all.

Relax...you will be able to sleep laying down. I am a "side sleeper", and after sleeping on my back for the first night post op, I have been able to sleep on my side without discomfort.

I have read that it may not be comfortable for you to sleep on your stomach for awhile after surgery, but most have written that eventually they are able to do that as well.

I was banded may 18th and the port site still hurts and i cant lay flat in my back yet. It feels kinda tight when i do. Is something wrong with me?

I got into bed just fine the first night..then I got stuck there when the pain meds wore off, and I could not sit up! Hubby had to help me to sit up and take more meds. After the first night I could manage on my own by rolling over onto my side, swinging my feet over first then pushing with my hands to sit up.

Same thing happened to me in a recliner after I had my appendix out. My sis left me comfy and happy fully reclined while she went to get groceries. I woke from a nap, she wasn't home, and I did not have the abdominal umpff to sit upright with her dog resting with me. Guess I am just a wimp. But if you live alone, something to consider before you lay down.

Now, no worries. Side and back sleeper here.
