(Introduction) First Step Tomorrow...

Recommended Posts

Ok - Here's my story. My name's Clay and I'm 32 - I've been overweight for roughly 23 years now. I've always struggled with it... When I was 15 I lost 90 lbs with adipex and Atkins diet. Needless to say its come back over the years plus about 10..

I just found out that the insurance where I work pays for bariatric surgery - I have United Healthcare through HCA hospitals. I'm going tomorrow for the seminar with Dr. Sheetal M. Patel in Plano. Still pretty nervous and kinda bummed - I've been turned down by insurance a couple of times in the past and I'm afraid this will be the same...

Good Luck Clay. I don't have the same insurance as you but I was just recently approved and hope to be banded here in June. I had to visit my Primary care doctor once a month for six months for weight visits and to go over my diet and then I visited a surgeon and took a psych test and went to a nutrition class. I also have severe sleep apnea. I'm 36, and weight 265. I'm hoping to lose 100-110 pounds. Good luck on your journey! Keep us up to date!

Welcome acting nurse! I haven't been on this site long, but I already love it. The great folks here are so knowledgeable and are a great source of inspiration.

Good luck with your journey! I just had my first consult today and I spent the bulk of my break today making the doctor's appointments my surgeon told me to make. I'm all set with all except the nutritionist and the pulmonary specialist.

My advice re: the insurance is to print out a copy of your carrier's bariatric policy, read through them carefully and write down any questions you have thereafter. HTH

P.S. I'm 5'11 and 340 lbs.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
